On tap this past Sunday at the Gardner Ale House. Served in a standard pint glass. Dark brown color. Very thin white head. Minimal lacing on glass. Smell had a very nice aroma of chocolate milk to it. Flavor was malty, with just a hint of roasted barley. The chocolate flavor was was not extremely pronounced, but it was noticeable. Mouthfeel could have had a bit more of a body, which would have been nice for a porter. Drinkability was smooth and flavorful, but I just wish this beer was a bit more creamy. This porter was a nice way to start off Sunday brunch, and a good intro to the beers brewed here.

Poured from the tap into a tasting glass.

The color is a dark black with a light brown head with some nice lacing.

The smell is of roasted malt, some nice chocolate flavor with a touch of hops.

The taste is dark chocolate with a roasted malt flavor. A roasted almond feel with some slight bitterness.

The feel of this beer is not as heavy as expected. Feels a bit warm but not too acidy. A nice drinkable beer.

On tap at the Gardner Ale House.

Pours nearly black with red-brown edges and a rocky mocha colored head which leaves extravagant panels of sticky lace all the way down the glass. Great looking beer.

Scent is unsweetened dark chocolate, roasted coffee, toasted almonds.

Taste follows the nose. Unsweetened dark chocolate, coffee, roasted nuts, and a dark roasted / burnt malt flavor. Just the right balance between sweetness and bitterness.

Mouthfeel is a creamy medium wih a nice tingle of carbonation. Clean finish with a very slight warming.

Drinkability is excellent.

This is really a delicious porter and I can't wait to get my hands on more of it. My favorite Gardner beer and I hope they will make it a regular year round release.

The bulletin Board had this listed as a "new" beer on 3.28.07

AP: Black, totally opaque with a mocha colored scattered head, with clumps of thickness and a sticky lacing.

Nose: roasty dark chocolate, cream, herbal hop. Very pungent aroma.

Flavor: Dark roasted malt, herbal hop bitterness, a subtle underlying chocolate current, roasty almonds. All balanced very well.

Feel: Full bodied, feels hefty and thick just the way I like a Porter. It also has a crisp clean finish.

DA: This is my very first sample of what this new Brewery has to offer...I'm pretty impressed with this sample.
