Please note that there is also a cask version of this beer at 3.5% ABV.
The colour is deep yellow with a tint of gold; the liquid is clear. There is a nice low white head.
The smell got notes of butter cookies, some bitterness, carrots, and dry citric notes of hops.
The taste starts with a robust chemical flavour of rubber and detergents. Lots of hoppy notes, but it is not overly bitter. Some dry lightly roasted malt. The aftertaste is hoppy, bitter and a little sweet with a touch of apples and grapefruit. The finish brings back those odd notes of rubber.
The carbonation is surprisingly strong, the liquid a bit thin.
I think that Shepherd Neame tried to make a crossing between a British Pale Ale and an American Pale Ale. But it seems like they got it all wrong somehow.
