Look: golden brown lots of frothy head
Smell: yeasty with a touch of apple blossom
Taste: lot of caramel, some pleasant bite
Feel: smooth refreshing
Overall: Enjoyable beer, a good session ale at 3.8 % not quite hoppy enough for my taste but very good value at 2 euros

Could be a new version of Burn's Ale (now July 2016) Different label, no pic of Robbie Burns. ABV only 3.8 now. Now available in Lidl in Ireland at just over 2 euro. An o.k. beer which did not excite me.

500 ml clear bottle into a Sweetwater pint glass in Largoward, Scotland.
Red-brown body has excellent clarity and a decent head.
Amply malty aroma and flavor. Decent balance.
Medium-full body. Good carbonation.

O: good, modestly above average, but unexceptional version of style.

Chestnut brown. Thin head. A bit of haze.
A malty, nutty aroma.
Rather stale flavour reflecting the nose.
Too carbonated with a medium body.
My 3.8% version lacked depth.

Chestnut to brick red coloured beer with a somewhat beige and fairly big head. Bottle has freshness date Jan 14 and was purchased for just a quid at Lidl. Bottle also has 3.8% ABV not 4.0%. The name and emphasis on Scottish oats led me to suspect the brewer was aiming for a Scotch ale with this.

The nose is mostly a roasted malt affair, less fresh than chocolate or coffee, more stale burned digestives, but not in a particularly offputting way. Doesn't have the sweetness I owuld normally expect in a Scotch ale. This is like a very spartan brown ale, well carbonated with a somewhat smoky roasted malt and biscuity flavour. A decent beer but nothing to write home about.

Purchased recently at the Lidl supermarket, coming in a clear 500ml bottle, BB Dec. 2011, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass. Notes: ingredients include Pale, Crystal, Brown malts, and Scottish Oats.

A: chestnut brown in colour, good clarity, a thin off-white foam retreats to a rim, moderately carbonated.
S: deeply malty, nutty, lightly caramely, with a whiff of burned malts aroma, while a touch of black dates stays aside. Simple and pleasant.
T: the foretaste is predominantly malty and light-bodied - nutty, burned-toasty, plus a touch of toffee, leading towards a semi-bitter finish laced with both roasty hints of malts & hop bitterness, and a nice edge of sourness. Rather clean, and dry-ish in the finish. The malty aroma is so good that, come to think of it, yeah maybe the "choicest Scottish Oats" have lent an extra pleasant touch indeed.
M&D: initially fizzy, the carbonation turns softer as it goes, this is a light-bodied, malty brew - quite enjoyable but not really quaffable due to the lack of complexity.
