500ml clear bottle poured into a Young's pint pot.

A. Deep, deep amber - almost red coloured beer topped by a slightly yellow tinged head.

S. Malty, maybe a tiny amount of chocolate. A minute hint of spice and fruit.

T. Some juicy malt and a nice hop presence together with some nuttiness.

M. Thin almost medium bodied.

D. An average performer, not much else to say.

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of Sept 2015. ABV is stated as 3.8%. Acquired a little while back from a B&M store. The label proclaims this as a festive ale with spicy notes and a hoppy finish.

A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear orange-amber colour with plentiful carbonation. Forms a decent head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a persistent surface layer. Slight lacing.

S: Aroma of vague caramel malt with hints of fruity ale yeast, stewed leaves and a touch of toasted grain. The yeast is distinctly Shep Neame and the character is distinctly mediocre.

T: Tastes of watery caramel malt with a harsh, dry finish. Notes of ale yeast, acrid stewed leaves, faint husky grain and cardboard. Well-attenuated, followed by a harsh leafy bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with prickly carbonation and a thin, watery body. Quite astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of acrid stewed leaves/cardboard, bitterness and mild ale yeast.

O: Decidedly poor even by Shepherd Neame's low standards. Looks OK, however the aroma and flavour are dull with unpleasant undertones. The bitterness grates on the palate. Lacklustre body. Neither festive nor fun - give it a miss.

Nothing much to this one. Standard English Bitter.
Lightly hopped in aroma and flavour.
Unassuming with no outstanding attributes.
A Christmas label put on an average bitter for marketing purposes.

Between the clear garden & the now 3.8% it taste like a mix of PG Tips & Fairy washing up liquid
If this was my reward
I must have done something down right evil
