I got this for 99p so I am tempted to go easy on it
It's okay, it tastes fairly decent but the aroma is pretty pants
I just like more oomph in a christmas brew

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of Oct 2014, so it's a bit out of date. ABV stated as 3.8%. Acquired from a B&M store a while back and stashed in a cupboard. Described on the label as a festive ale (possibly brewed for Lidl).
A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear coppery-amber colour with medium carbonation. Forms a decent head of white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a patchy surface layer.
S: Aroma of caramel malt with vague hints of fruitiness, ale yeast and stewed leaves. Insubstantial.
T: Tastes of watery caramel malt with a dry finish. Notes of ale yeast, subtle fruitiness, stewed leaves and a hint of harsh cardboard. Well-attenuated, followed by a twiggy, acrid bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth but thin and watery, with prickly carbonation. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of vague caramel malt, harsh stewed leaves/herbs and cardboard.
O: Meh - weak sauce. Another sub-par SN beer for a budget supermarket. Average looks, followed by a lacklustre aroma and weak, dull flavour. Little festive cheer to be had here. Fizzy, watery body. Not worth it; hopefully a one-off but pass it over if you see it.

3.8% abv/clear bottle/Oct 14 date here as well. A dark amber coloured beer with a slightly offwhite head which sticks around for the long haul. The nose is a pleasant mixture of rhubarblike astringency, some wholemeal bread and a little chalkiness.
This is my second bottle in a week, and i seem much keener on it today than last time. It starts with a nice tart (not quite lemony) tang, goes through a metallic phase and then has a hint of smokiness and a worthy wholemeal/biscuity combo. Somewhat spicy hops linger nicely on the tongue. This could be much bolder (would need a lot more thrown at it to be a genuine winter warmer in my eyes), but I'd say it's much better than some of SN's lower end supermarket beers. At 79p per bottle I'm surprised on the upside.

At 3.8%abv., coming in a 500ml clear bottle; BB 10/2014, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.
A: pours a beautiful bright copper colour, coming with a fluffy off-white head and very light carbonation.
S: light notes of burned sugar, sweet orangey-citric fruits, and aromatic roast malts come to mind; given a good swirl, the deeper, nutty elements emerge alongside a decent whiff of acidity.
T: quite fizzy upfront, the flavour has with it a bitter-sweet malty and toffee-ish opening, followed by a restrained level of orangey-citric hop flavours, light berry-ish acidity and toasted nuts (a bit like walnuts), then quickly overwhelmed by a wave of earthy bitterness which renders a lingeringly bitter-sweet and slightly dry-ish palate towards the end.
M&O: too fizzy on the palate, otherwise this beer at just 3.8%abv. has retained a fairly decent body against a simple but well executed flavour profile for a traditional English Bitter. It might be more delicious served on cask, if it’s ever available?

Brown 500ml bottle (unusual for Sheperd Neame and their clear glass bottles) poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 12th June 2012.
Looked OK: bright and clear chestnut brown body with a good, strong foaming head of white.
Malts in the nose with some dried fruit trying to play: but not a heavy smelling brew.
Bland for a Winter Warmer with weak flavours of maltiness with a slight hop presence towards a mildly bitter finish.
Disappointed: yet another supermarket brew from this brewery that fails to excite.
