Bottled and sadly clear glass
This thankfully didn't skunk a nice slightly sweet festive ale
Aroma is caramel malts, some yeast, flowery light hop note. Flavour is light fruity/floral hops, long lasting biscuit malt. Nice.

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of May 2013. Picked up from Morrisons a while ago and stored in my garage. This appeared around the time of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee last year, so I assume it was a marketing ploy to capitalise on the event. However, the label makes no explicit mention of the Jubilee.
Poured into a straight pint glass. A crystal clear orange-amber colour with light carbonation. Forms a decent head of white foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding. Aroma of roasted grain, caramel, husks, stewed leaves and fruity ale yeast. Distinctly Shepherd Neame, with nice balance.
Tastes of weak caramel malt with a harsh bitter finish. Notes of roasted grain, caramel, stewed leaves, herbs and fruity ale yeast. Hints of cardboard in the background. Possesses an acrid quality with a herbal bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is dry, thin and watery, with tingly carbonation. Weak body. Highly astringent, with an aftertaste of faint malt, harsh stewed leaves and bitter herbs.
This is poor even by SN's low standards. It doesn't smell too bad but the flavour is dry and unbalanced, attacking your tastebuds with an overblown herbal assault. The body is crap - watery and insubstantial. A pretty rubbish ale; certainly not a fit accompaniment to the Diamond Jubilee. This was probably a one-off but steer well clear if you encounter it.

Clear 500ml bottle: best before May 2013, drank on 26 July 2012.
Light amber body with a thin white wisp and collar.
Hops rule the aroma and taste: floral and citrus in the nose a little more balanced with malts in the taste. Flavours roll around the mouth but it all seems superficial and artificial.
This is not unlike a host of Shepherd Neame supermarket brews and isn't a great advert for the brewery: good job it was cheap.
