Clear 500ml bottle: poured into my 'Old Speckled Hen' badged pint vase @ home on 28 Dec 2012 (not really Summer!). I just wanted something light after all the food and drink I'd consummed over the festive season.

Light amber body with a good solid foam head.

The nose was bread, biscuity and slightly yeasty, I also detected some hop notes within the aroma (piney).

The taste was a lot better than I expected: a pleasant blend of maltines balanced nicely with a fruity bitterness from the hops. Shepherd Neame get stick for some of their beers, but this one is OK.

Easy to drink and well put together, glad I made the effort to buy it.

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of April 2013. A summer offering from Sainsbury's.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear orange-amber colour with decent carbonation. Forms a small head of white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding. A weak aroma of caramel malt, stewed hops and Shepherd Neame's house yeast. Pretty dull.

Tastes of caramel malt with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of stewed hops, dry yeast and a harsh leafy quality in the background. No aromatic hops are noticible. A dry, astringent bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, but thin and insubstantial. Rather astringent, with an aftertaste of bitter stewed leaves and faint malt.

Not very pale, and not very good. Faint aroma, and the flavour has a harsh bitterness that doesn't go over well. The blurb on the label describes it as 'light and refreshing', which is far from being the case. No aromatic hops notes to take the edge off or add depth to its character. Once again Shepherd Neame prove themselves the masters of mediocrity, with a dull and samey supermarket offering. Not worth your time - avoid.

Malty with a touch of hops and a hint of fruit. Little mouth feel and leaves the mouth with a not too satisfying sensation which does not tempt one back for another sip. Aftertaste is a bit sour. Seems to be a bit bland in all dimensions.
