Serving: On tap
A:
Pours an inpenetrable black with a finger of yellow-beige head that dissipates to a film with a ring around the glass. Meh retention; speckled lacing. (3.75)
S:
Sweet and boozy. Raisins, baking spices, brown sugar, warm yeast aromas. (4)
T:
Bready and warming. Dark fruits, bubblegum, sugar, grain, dark bread. (3.5)
M:
Soft, medium bodied, smooth, and slightly slick. There is a lingering warmth to it, but alcohol is well-hidden. (3.75)
O:
This is an all right Doppelbock.
It is generally over-sweet for my taste, but is not sticky and is fairly drinkable. It pours pretty nice for such a strong beer, and has a very pleasant aroma. The flavor was nice and complex but pretty sugary. It is a big beer, but I didn't find it to be overly filling and it certainly could stand to be a little richer to balance out its 'bigness' in other areas.
This is a relatively solid beer, but defintely not one that I would choose over a German example. Although, to be fair, I don't know that I have ever come across a non-German one that I would. (3.5)

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
