Benelux Brewpub & Café "Zoot"
on tap at the brewpub on 4 OCT 2014
Notes: Cloudy light gold beneath a short head of frothy white that holds well and leaves some nice lacing about the glass. The aroma is sweetish with golden malt, delicately spicy, and fruity with a hint of lemon zest. The flavor follows with some added clove, and a touch of herbal hops. The alcohol is present but doesn't stand out. It's sweetish upfront, with a touch of honey to the malt, but it manages to dry in the finish. Medium bodied with a median, gently effervescent carbonation.

Draft: Poured a beige color ale with a small foamy head with good retention. Aroma consists of light fruity ester and subtle peppery yeast with a semi sweet malt base. Taste is a bit disappointing (probably somewhat due to the fact that I had this right after their Ergot) with light peppery yeast notes and even subtler fruity ester with an OK malt backbone. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. OK but not as par as some of the staple of the style.

Festival Bières et Saveurs 2009. Cloudy yellow appearance . Yeasty musty aroma. Yeasty taste with above-average mouthfeel, some fruit in taste, some fruit esthers. Some hops, carbonation is right thre. Satisfying and a real Belgian ale, though not among the best tripels I have had.
