On tap at the brewpub. I see three other entries here for very similar beers but this one was listed distinctly as Armada Reserve and at 7.8% ABV. Mostly opaque dark oaky-brown body with a thin cover of cream white head and bits of lacing.
Smells of nice dark caramel and lots of earthy hops. A touch lactic, though it's subtle.
Tons of dark earthy hops hit you right away, coming off as a cross between a double IPA and a brown ale. Grapefruit pith and pineapple rind blend perfectly with roasty dark malt and a little toffee, though it's definitely hop dominated (in a good way). Nice mineral character. It took me a while to figure out what I was tasting but there's a hint of lactic durian in there; strange but not off putting. A little alcohol shows but it's well placed.
The finish is moderately drying. Decent medium body and carbonation is a bit too high. Alright feel though.
This is a great hoppy brown. I'd love to have a chance to explore this one more fully; I made a choice to sit outside in the wind over sitting inside and listening to their Guido club beats (neither being ideal beer-enjoying conditions).

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
