This product is brewed by Lipetskpivo but sold under the "Novaya Myedovarnya" label. I found this tall brown half liter bottle in a Moscow supermarket. It has a very short neck and a multi-colored label featuring a lot of honey in a circle under the name. The label calls this a honey beer, although "Novaya Myedovarnya" means "new meadery". Ingredients include honey and sugar (do you really need both?). Best before 8/28/06, I opened it on 5/6/06.
Pours a clear very pale yellow under a 1/2 finger off-white head that disappears very quickly, leaving no traces. The nose is, not surprisingly, strong of sweet honey. The mouth is very light and moderately carbonated. Light and sweet flavor, with lots of honey, which masks out pretty much everything else. A hint of hops bitterness struggles to the surface in the aftertaste, but never fully overcomes the sweetness, which lasts and lasts. It is what it is, and not a bad version thereof, for those who want honey in their beer.
