This was poured into a pilsner flute from the bottle.

A - cloudy golden color (probably from the bottle conditioning - which I was not aware of) with a decent head that settles fast and leaves a nice lacing

S - sweet malt with some yeast-like fruitiness (ale like - this is a lager?) and some very subtle hop accents

T - decoction-like malt sweetness with a fruitiness (as in the aroma) that is reminiscent of an ale; crisp hop finish

M - medium-light body, moderate carbonation

D - This is a very intriguing lager. It is somewhat clean, but has a fruitiness that is very ale-yeast-like. It might be a hop variety that I'm unfamiliar with causing this flavor, so I can't be too harsh on it (for craftsmanship), as I'm a little thrown off by it. Oh - very interesting bottle, it will go in the collection of rarities.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden body with a modest head that quickly fades; not much lacing

Smell: Smells of sweet caramel malt and, I hate to say it, a bit of DMS - corn???

Taste: Starts out with plenty of light caramel malt; finishes crisp and bitter with a touch of phenolic funkiness and a bit of sweetness, too

Mouthfeel: Creamy and medium bodied with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: This is one unusual brew for a Euro Lager; it has a variety of flavors and is somewhat unbalanced; having pointed out its flaws, none of them make it undrinkable - I just don't know enough about Russian beers to interpret the style adequately

How would you have any idea what style you are even buying with this chocie? All the label says is Afanasy Tver Beer and the only reason i know this is the right one is because of the picture uploaded before. The label (in English) says to keep refrigerated until Thermo sign appears, which is pretty cool (a flower marking on the back that shows when its cold enough.

Pours beautifully into a pilsner glass -- thanks to the suggestion of the Beer Advocate. Cloudy orange with tons of bubbles and a nice thin lacing that stays on the top of the glass. Smells of corn mixed with an citrus fruit. Tastes a bit like a wheat and pale ale. Much better than any other Euro Pale Lager that I've tried. Dances on the tongue Better to drink cold . . . not as good as this warms a bit.

An odd and interesting find at Pipe and Pint today hidden in the corner the odd shaped bottle and the fact it is Russian helped me pick this out(no Russian beers to date),pours a deep golden with a nice large fluffy head.Very malt accented aroma fruity and spicey and somewhat yeasty,flavors of orange and spice with almost no hop presence at all to speak of.Seems quite heavey for a 4.8% pale lager quite odd in style but has some nice flavors going on,a very sturdy no frills lager here.

The beer poured a pale straw golden with a slight haze. The white head was very low and compact and lasted to lace the glass.

The aroma was malty and fruity with a belgian ale spiciness.

The flavor was fruite with more belgian spiciness and some caramel flavor.

The finish was dry with unbalanced spiciness and a slight bitterness in a medium body.

12 ounce bottle. The beer is unbalanced and the fruitiness and spiciness detract from the drinkability. Not well done. I have the rest of the sixer, I hope this was an off bottle.

Appearance – Yellow in color with a tinge of orange and a big, pure white fluffy head.

Smell – The sharp grain is offset by a big orange sweetness that reminds me somewhat of an Abbey Trippel.

Taste – The sweet orange flavor here is overpowering, easily cutting off any flavor of grain or malt.

Mouthfeel – Light to medium-bodied, nicely carbonated, and decently refreshing.

Drinkability – This was drinkable.

Overall I thought this was a great beer. Golden orange colour that made me think "peaches". Decent head that almost completely dissolved with in about 7 minutes. Decent lacing of the glass. Has almost a faintly detectable fruity smell. Medium weight mouth feel (if that makes any sense) Also leaves a very faintly noticeable fruit after taste. Seems to be alot of corn in this one, both in smell and taste. Not very heavily carbonated, which is good of course. All around great import from the Russian Federation that I could probably pound down for a while; pretty easy to drink brew. I'd spend money on this again.

What catches the eye first about this beer is the presentation. A uniquely shaped bottle cylindrical and uniform and at about 2 and a half inches the tapering beings and the bottle becomes sharp, a 16 sided brown crystal towering to the heigh of the average 330ml bottle.

The pour revealed extremely active, tight carbonation, with little or no head. Color is a pale golden and somewhat cloudy.

The nose is sweet and a little spicy. The carbonation tickles the nose as it leaps randomly from the surface.

Taste was in contrast to my expectations. I was expecting and overlying sweetness and instead I got more hoppy bitterness and a bite from the crisp carbonation.

Overall I am not impressed with this beer at all. The bottle was the most interesting attribute. Perhaps it was the overly aggressive carbonation which I experienced last in the belgian blunder, Biere du Boucanier--yuck! Despite all that negativity I would still try the darker older brother which certainly could only get better.

Nice product. Poured a rich golden color with a white head. The head was thin, though, and disappeared quickly. No trace of lace anywhere in this place. The smell was full of malt, rich and deep. The taste was an excellent blend of malt and hops, heavy on the tongue with just a bit of carbonation tingle. The hops come out even stronger in the finish, and linger long after the liquid has gone. Good beer. Thank you, sir, may I have another!

I got this beer on a whim at the James Island Harris Teeter, which has a good beer selection, as far as grocery stores go. It had a nice smooth taste that went down easy. Had some hints of honey after taste. The head I got wasn't thick, but bubbly and about 1/2 an inch. All, but one, out of a six pack of the beers had a nice head to them. The lone beer was watered down extremely and tasted like Natty light. But, I would get this beer again and try the dark version too. Would have gotten a higher rating if it weren't for the lone watered down beer.

Pours golden with little head retention or lacing. Nose is toasty malt and alcohol. A draught leans your buds on the malt end, but there's plenty of bittering hops to keep them from jumping off your tongue. Creamy. Perhaps a bit of non-malt residual sugars, but not too shabby. A little too much fusel alcohol perceived.

Funky conical bottle. Label sports a "thermo-sign" to let you know when it's cold enough for drinking. Interesting.
