Brewed with Heather and no hops. I assume this is the evolution of their Braveheart Beir from 2 years ago. Since I never had that, I can't say if it's a new beer or just a new name.
Pulled from cask into an imperial pint at their pub, Bring Me A Shrubbery Ale is a hazy dark bronze with a small, creamy khaki head that is tight and long lasting, leaving very light, scattered lace.
Smell is pretty subdued, even at the cellar serving temp. Butterscotch, sweetish caramel, a bit of alcohol, and herbal.
Taste is also very herbal and earthy, decent pale malt backbone with a hint of chocolate, and a bit of spice on the otherwise clean finish.
Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, with a medium body, but the spiciness is a bit to prickly on the tongue for my taste.
Drinkability is not bad, and pretty interesting. I haven't had many gruits, but this one strikes me as a smoother, more sessionable take on the style, no doubt helped by the cask conditioning.
