Pours pitch black, no light shines through; creamy light brown head that lasts for quite a while. Smell is coffee, slight chocolate, roast malt. Taste- wow. Choco-coffee-berry, licorice and anise, pretty complicated and divine. Slightly sweet yet also dry, very good balance. Barely there carbonation, near still, definitely hovering around the 1.5 volumes of co2 for style. Very creamy and rich. This would go great with desert or as desert!

Got this one from screamforme in a recent trade.. Thanks, Mark!

Poured into my Duvel tulip...

Well, as I open this one, I don't hear a pop, fizz or anything... Uh-oh...

Pours a dead black, thick looking...like used motor oil.. With no head or carbonation at all... Absolutely zilch... Hmm.. Hope this is ok...

This may be the loveliest aroma on a brew that I've ever experienced... Loaded with rich chocolatey malts and coffee and vanilla, this smells world class to me... Maybe this will be ok...

Well, I was right, there is no carbonation at all here and you can tell... This could be ridiculous but you can tell its pretty much flat... What I do get are some tasty chocolatey malts and coffee and sort of give you an idea of what this could be...I didn't totally discount the brew but I couldn't give it the high scores that it might deserve either...

This is probably the only bottling they will ever do on this so its unlikely I will ever try this again and that's a shame.. I'd love to have another shot at this...

"A seasonal first! Full bodied, lots of chocolate & coffee flavors. It's our Pugent Sound Porter on steroids!"

My second sampling of this fantastic beer, my first on cask. Served in an imperial pint, it is creamy and foamy and settles like it was poured from nitro. Dark brownish black with a 2 finger, dense, long lasting light tan head leaving scattered, foamy lace.

Smell is dark roasty malts, not the distinct food flavors you get on the palate, and a whiff of alcohol vapors.

Taste is, as they claim, BIG on the coffee and baker's chocolate, just fantastic. I've always regarded their regular, Pugent Sound Porter as the best in the NW, but I think they trumped it here with this beast!

Mouthfeel is suburb, especially on cask, oh my. I find that most cask ale's taste thin and watered down, but this bad boy is just smooth an luscious. For the size, it's surprisingly light.

Drinkability is ridiculous. This is a strong, yet very smooth porter that drinks much less so, incredibly tasty, it's easy to get in trouble with. I love it, and will swing by as much as possible until it's gone.
