Pint at the brewpub, Harmon's 60 Schilling is a clear pale amber with a small white head that leaves scattered lace.
Smell is sweeter malts, caramel and a hint of vanilla, pretty subdued though.
Taste is pretty sweet malt, unusually fruity esters for the style, but tasty. There's a nice peaty backbone, assertive without being overly phenolic, which I often find to be the case with peat. While the sweetness at first seemed a bit much for the style, it really gives a nice contrast, and ultimate balance to the smokiness. Very nicely done, and showcases what I love about this style - tons of flavor without the bruising ABV. I like the fact that they took the American/homebrewer approach to the style without forgetting what originally defined it.
Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, perhaps more in flavor really, as there's a crispness to it, very clean finish.
Drinkability is high, one of Harmon's better beers in a while. Seems like they're really hitting there stride of late, i just had there regular IPA, perhaps it was the freshness, but it's never tasted so fragrent and hoppy to me. And then this wonderful scottish ale, very smooth, nice smokiness, a bit sweet, not very strong, just damn good!
