Poured into a Black Raven imperial pint glass. Pours a medium to dark chestnut amber. Thin light tan head dissipates slowly to a thin film and ring around the glass. No lacing. Nice aroma of light fruit, caramel malt. Flavor of sweet malt, dried fruit, brown sugar, light caramel. Finish is dry malt, but counteracted by residual sweetness. Medium to heavy bodied with a hint of creaminess. Well integrated and a pleasure to drink. A really nicely made and true to style old ale.

On draught at the pub (also had some bottles of this, very good), NW Biennial Brew is a ruddy pale brown with a small tan collar leaving very light lace.
Smell is bright, rich, sweet. Lots of caramel, brown sugar, a little fruity.
Taste was spot on for the style, nice sweetness, sugar and fruit, countered with a little dry heat, but also sweetness from the alcohol. A touch of prune, werthers toffees.
Mouthfeel was on the sticky side, with appropriately low carbonation, but there was a soft slickness too it, not too heavy, nice.
Drinkability was good. It was rich and satisfying, but at the same time, easy drinking. Very well done.
