Draught at Glenfiddich warehouse 68 in Stockholm, Sweden.
A: Thick creamy lace and a dark rubyred-color
S: Hops, flowers, yeast (faint), coffee
T: Smoke, wild hops, chocolate, citric notes.
M: Very bitter aftertaste, quite a high level of carbonation with mediumsized bubbles. Too much bubbles really.
This is an experimental brew and should be treated as such. It's not
a bad barleywine but i would have prefered a little more maltiness in there. It'll be interesting to see what the next batch will taste like.

A note on the name: Ölandstok is a plant, shrubby cinquefoil (or hardhack) that is common on the island of Öland in the Baltic Sea. Tok also means fool, perhaps a warning of the high alcoholic content?
The bartender told me that this is still an experimental brew; the brewery wants it to get it up towards 10% ABV.
The colour is deep wine red; although the ale is bottle conditioned; the liquid is clear. The finger thick foam is pale brown. Some light lacing.
The smell got lots of flowery and herbal notes, some alcohol, smoked hints, as some chemical bitter and matured flavours.
The taste is bitter and a little sour. In fact, it is very rough and right-on in its bitterness. Some notes of yeast, grapefruits and semi-sweet malt. The short aftertaste is unbalanced with lots of alcohol and some bread-like malt.
The carbonation is very strong, almost Belgian with lots of mid-sized bubbles.
No, this one isnt really finished yet Still, an OK barley wine.
