Christmas beers come in all shapes this year
Ölands Gårdsbryggeri is celebrating the holidays with an English Porter.
The colour is black; I couldnt even see if the liquid was clear or hazy. The head, however, was brown finger thick and compact. It left some very nice lacing.
The smell is a little weak. Some bitter notes, some roasted malt with a hint of coffee. It may have been served too cold?
The taste is bitter with a medium strong body. Sourish notes of fruits are blended with some spicy hoppy flavours (Amarillo hops?). Did I notice some rye? The aftertaste is mild with a fine bitterness with quite a lot of roasted malt.
The carbonation is mild, the liquid is smooth.
A refreshing porter it is powerful without getting too heavy. Still it brings the spicy sour flavours that have become a trademark of this small brewery.
