The famous TJ'S drinkery! I've been wanting to check it our for years...

Well, color me unimpressed. This is your typical suburban bar/pub, albeit one with a long list of draft craft beer.

About 25 taps of mostly local/regional brews: Dogfish, Root Down, Robin Hood, Sly Fox, Spellbound, Levante, Tired Hands... nothing extraordinary or rare.

Glad I checked it out, don't think I'll be back.

Glad I check

Always a solid, well thought out tap selection with something to please everyone. They seem to have good relationships with distributors/brewers and pull a fair number of harder to find brews. Weeknight events are fun. I wish the menu was a bit more inventive, but the specials are usually pretty decent.

Upscale place that had both a bar area and a more formal restaurant area. Obviously we were there for the draft list -- I remember something on the order of 20 lines. From the looks of it they have specials on Mondays to kick kegs from that weekend and get new stuff on. When we visited there were 5 options from Hill Farmstead, which was amazing. Apparently they will always have something on tap from HF going forward, and I will also always be there as I move to the area. Oh yeah, food. Very nice, gastropub+ type fare.

Great variety of dishes, all are executed well. Bar has a nice ambiance, as does the dining room. Best tap list west of Philadelphia. A favorite stop for my wife and I.

One of the very best beer destinations in the Philadelphia area (or the world!) A ton of beer on draft, served correctly by a very good staff. Food is occasionally questionable (it's often very very rich, which can be great to cure a hangover but not so great if you're just looking for a reasonable dinner) but always quite tasty. The bar area has a great vibe, but so does the restaurant area - like two really great restaurants in one.

Great rotating beer selection on tap. Awesome burgers. Sports bar atmosphere to the right, booths and casual dining experience to the left. My favorite place to go out for a burger and a beer. Much better than any other options in tje area like McKenzies or Iron Hill.

Been going to TJ's since it opened. Great spot as it's damn near in the parking lot of my employer, and especially because they were one of the first bars that opened my eyes to craft beer. Scott's the man and one of the only people in the place I care for. Some of the employees are darn right not meant to be in such a wonderful spot (no names in honor of courtesy), you know who you are. Thanks for being there TJ's. May we enjoy one another's company for years to come!!

P.S.- Why do the waitresses get mad when you sit in the bar side, just to have some drinks and have a tab open at the bar? It ain't my fault there's not enough room.

This is a place I have always wanted to visit, and finally I was in the area and made sure I put this on my to do list for the day. It is located in a strip mall area that seems to not have enough parking for all the stores. Got one of the last parking spots available. Walking inside you are greeted by a hostess, and I decided to head to the bar in the right room of the place. The left seems to have dinig tables.

The bar was nice as it had a granite top and could seat 15 or so. Dark colors throughout, and 3 large TVs are showing sports. There are LCD panels that are showing the offerings and they look like a blackboard which is cool. A "No Crap On Tap" neon sign is over the cash register.

There were about 25 beers on draft that focused on a good variety, but big beers were a good portion of the menu. The night before they had the Ithaca Hop Box beers on draft, and luckily they still were available. Add to that Bell's Stout and Two Hearted, Ballast Big Eye IPA, Weihenstephaner, Smutty Pale Ale, DFH American Beauty, Deshutes Mirror Pond, Clown Shoes Tramp Stamp, Goose Island Honkers, and Sierra Nevada Enjoy By were some of the other drafts. Happy hour prices are very good for beers especially the ones they are looking to kick to keg.

Service was good and very knowledgable about the selections. The appetizers we had were very tasty and were listed to pair with a style of beer.

This is a wonderful place and I can consider it one of my favorite craft beer bars I have visited across the country. Defintely put this on your beer destination plan.

Went to TJ's for the first time this past weekend. Small place, but a great atmosphere. It sits back in a strip mall kind of building, so it's a hidden gem.

The brew list is absolutely great. Definitely better than 95% of places I've been to, but it's also not the "best" so-to-speak. Prices are a little high, but it's on the Main Line, so I guess it comes with the territory.

The food and service were absolutely fantastic, and definitely will keep us coming back in the future on occasion.

Great place! Small enough to feel cozy but big enough that I've never had to wait for a table. High-end bar food (duck confit tacos, mah mahi salad, etc.) Tap selection is varied and top-notch. Good blend of hoppy and malty at any given time. Also, their website is informative and constantly up to date.

Stopped here with some friends prior to a Tired Hands bottle release. Just wanted to do a light pre-game session before standing in line over at the brewpub. The whole place is very nice looking. It's not very spacious but it's got a decent amount of room to walk around and/or sit down. The bar area seats about 20-30 people probably, there is an electronic beer menu that is posted above the bar listing what seems to be at least 30-40 beers on tap. The list of beers consisted of some local stuff as well as plenty of out of state brews. The first beer I had seemed a little on the flat side, so did my friends beers and we had all picked something different. Seemed like there wasn't enough CO2 or something. Ended up ordering another round and some food and the beers seemed a little better the second time around (different beers from the first time). The food selection was pretty good, The Mac & Cheese caught my eye and had to roll with that. They gave options to what kind of meat you can have on the Mac & Cheese so I chose bacon. The food was excellent when it came out, big enough portion to fill me up but didn't need to take any home. I feel that everything is a bit on the pricy side due to my bills and such so this could be a reasonable place to go from time to time. I would definitely go back again one day to check it out again. It's a bit of a drive for me but when in the area I could see myself stopping by.

My old review was when TJ's was merely a stop on a pub crawl. I felt it needed to get updated to the Landmark bar and eatery I actually consider it.

First off, the beer selection is second to none. I always find a local or near-local beer I haven't had on tap. They also keep a steady selection of sought after craft and imports that keep me on my toes in terms of what to expect. And trust me, that's saying something with a beer-snob in recovery like me.

The food, as I really like food, is some of the best when it comes to good-beer bars. Anything served on a roll is going to delight you, as are the appetizers. But keep an eye on what specials are on that day. The kitchen really shines at putting unique spins on pub favorites. Hell, even their popcorn is freaking awesome!

I kick myself often that I used to live 20 minutes from here, and now live an hour and 20 minutes away and never gave TJ's the patronage I should have. Whenever I am within 30 minutes of here I stop. I have even met a business client here who I knew didn't drink, just so I could tip one back and have some of the best nachos in the area.

Don't be like me. Appreciate TJ's if you're in the area. Good people serving good beer and good food.

Very OLD review:

Stopped here on day 2 of a pub crawl with BA Phatz

Took a little longer than I would have liked to get here, but I took the route I knew would get us there, in lieu of trying to save time by taking an unknown route.

Layout of the place is quaint, 15 or so seat bar area and 10-15 4-person tables set up in the middle of the place

We grabbed two seats at the bar and started day 2 of a drinking binge that would have made Dudley Moore cringe. The tap line up really didn't impress me all that much. A handful of Flying Fish taps, a wheat beer I have forgotten, Allagash White, and few others that don't come to mind. What I loved, and had three pints of, was the Sly Fox Pale Ale on cask. It was fresh, good, and served right up when I asked. The food was also very good, with every dish having a suggested beer pairing. I thought this was a grand idea, and way ahead of the curve.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable trip. I would go back here anytime, and will keep an eye on their draft list, as it seems they get in some hard to find brews.

Local eatery and bar, close to work.

A bit small, bar and restaurant about the same size--right for the bar, left to sit and eat.

Good, friendly service. They know the beers and for the most part don't even need to write down your order so familiar. They will double check though to make sure that's what you wanted.

Good to great selection on tap and bottles. Some hard to find and world class examples both on the IPA and stout/porter side.

Food is a step above any typical bar and they use beer in their food and specials.

Bar can get full quick and standing room only on busy nights or events. Parking gets full fast, but if you drive to the sides or back you can find something.

Overall: Great local, small bar with an amazing beer list every time you go. They never seem to dissapoint, which is rare. Take out bottle section also is a bonus. A few TV's so you can check the scores in between beer-geek talk.

Living so close to TJ's, it's a shame I didn't know about this place earlier. Of course, my liver is probably rejoicing at that fact. Still, this is one of my absolute favorite establishments for drinking if not my overall favorite. The selection is simply awesome, with a lot of variety in styles of beer on tap. You can get growlers filled here as long as you bring your own and it isn't a limited brew. I got a growler of Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin which was pretty wonderful. I enjoy their electronic tap gives you all the pertinent information for each brew.

Not only is the beer selection top notch, the food is amazing. The mac&cheese with brats is dangerously good. The prices are always reasonable for what you get/quality. Service is always between satisfactory and exceptional depending on who is on for the day.

Atmosphere is pretty decent, depending on "game day" status. In terms of sports fans, the crowd here is NOT obnoxious at all compared to other places I have visited. Most people who come to watch the game are very subdued and relaxed...even when there is a game on, I don't find my drinking experience much affected negatively.

Overall, I love TJ's. I recommend a visit if you are in/from the area!

I have been going to TJ's for a few months now and it is by far my favorite bar. The crafts that they have on tap are second to none. They have a selection of 28 beers on tap, and are constantly changing the lineup. It's in the middle of a little strip mall on the main line right across the street from the Paoli train station.
The vibe is sort of a trendy hipsters bar with beer geeks everywhere. There are a few TV's on the walls but not a typical sports bar feel to them. The real thing that people come there to do is drink great beer from the tap.
Their best feature is the vertical TV's that they use for beer menus. The ever changing list of beers on tap is kept up like a stock exchange of beer and there are $3 keg kickers every happy hour. This helps keep the beer fresh and try something you wouldn't normally have.
The wait staff is extremely knowledgeable. They know about all of the beers on tap and have tried most of them. If you ever have any questions on what to order tell them what you're in the mood for and they will be happy to oblige.
The food is bar food that has been kicked up a notch. If you're there I would highly recommend the pretzels and the chipolte macaroni and cheese.

TJ's is currently in the "Big 4" of my most visited bars, along with Teresa's, Capone's, and Pinocchio's. It's a simple 7 miles from my house, and it has just about everything I need in a bar, without the hassle of going to the city.

Located right near the train station, in a semi-hidden strip mall also containing two, yes, two separate stores to buy hot wings. Nice, simple decor in TJ's, with lots and lots of appropriate beer tin tackers on the wall, a few TVs, a good-sized bar, and plenty of tables and leg room, including separate dining areas. It's not exactly dim-lit and intimate like some of my other favorite bars, but it's okay, I still knew it would be a good time from the first time I walked in. Also...DIGITAL TAP LISTS. So far I'd only seen this twice, at the Mayor of Old Town in Ft. Collins, where they have 100 beers on tap and such a marvel of the modern age as digital tap screens makes most sense, and at Al's / Pizza Boy. I like this technology.

They do have a very good amount on tap, around 25 or so, with a hand pump, and a moderately impressive bottle list, just in case the stuff on tap isn't good enough for you. Draught selection is always very good and rotates quickly. You won't always find extreme rarities here, but they do pump in the local favs, as well as general craft/micro favs and uncommons from all over the world. The staff is almost always friendly and on the ball, and pretty in tune with the beer scene. If there's anything I can complain about here, it's that more than once I've had a bartender (it's a girl who will remain nameless) that has absentmindedly served me the wrong beer. Otherwise, I don't have a problem, and Scott is one of my favorite bartenders anywhere.

Food is very good as well. Multiple mac&cheese options? Obviously I'm getting that. Other offerings include some really yummy salads, comfort foods, but best of all, I'd say at least 50% of the items on the menu are made with beer as an ingredient, from the Sly Fox fish and chips, to the rauchbier burger. You know these guys are serious. Weekly specials are typical excellent as well, with the occasional creative burger (caramel apple burger?) or mac&cheese (pepperoni?) special.

I go here anywhere between 2-10 times a month, and it's always a pleasure. Better start using that treadmill more.

First time guest at TJ's today. Very clean place. Well decorated, music that you don't have to s team over, digital taplists, 26 beers on tap...this place is fantastic. Touch Tunes, beautiful neons and beer signage, and some nice LCD TV's add to a nice scene. They had some really unique offerings including Dogfish Bead Red & Black, and Sierra Nevada Hop Smack. Bottle selection is minimal. Oh yeah, the bartender was absolutely gorgeous. I definitely plan on putting TJ's into my rotation of frequented establishments.

Awesome place! Visited 7/20/11 with fjl77.
This was my second time here: they have great selection and friendly service. We had two hearted l, nogne-o #500, $3 bp tongue bucklers, cw illuminations and bp navigators to name a few. I love the digital draft list that automatically updates during happy hour for keg kicker specials. Awesome idea and helps with freshness which has never been an issue. I Had the fried peanut butter and jelly which was absolutely rediculous but I just had to try. it's only 15 minutes away so I'll be back many times.

I was here for the first time for the Suburban Philly BA Meet-up on June 18, 2011. The event was $10 for admission into the restaurant where TJ's would provide food, water, and service.

The restaurant and bar is unassuming, located in a suburban strip mall across the street from a train station. But inside is nice exposed brick walls with homey decor and a nice bar that is clearly removed from the main dining area.

For the BA meetup, the back room was reserved for the tasting with a couple tables set up for the bottle share. and the middle room was set-up with a couple cafe tables and several tables filled with huge platters of each chicken salad, kobe beef, and crab cake sliders. There was also a cheese plate that several pounds of about 5 cheeses with olives, salami, dates and toast/crackers. The food was very good and a huge steal at $10! I especially like the mini-crab cake sliders where the "crab" was high quality lump crab meat that was lightly fried served simply on a challah bun.

The service was good, they provided several pitchers of ice water that was constantly refilled and plenty of clean, new tasting glasses were brought in as the old ones were cleared. The servers were attentive the entire time and were not rude about kicking us out when the event was over. Even though it was supposed to end at 4, they let us stay until 4:45.

The draft selection was good, but not mindblowingly awesome, although Hill Farmstead Double Citra was rumored to have been put on when we left. The majority of the beers are good craft beers, featuring many locals and interesting imports, especially Belgians. I would absolutely go back again, if only it weren't 35 minutes from my house.

After hearing so many good thing's about their beloved mac-n-cheese.We finally said ok let's check this out and they did not disappoint.

As you walk in you are greeted by the hostess desk in which you could be seated in the dining area to your left in a nice size room or the bar area which was abit more open and what we were in the mood for. Bar to your immediate left with massive flat screens playing womens softball? Very unique looking beer lists as my wife and I wondered how they did that.EEK gads can someone open the shades it is like a dungeon in here!

Service was good as our waitress/barkeep was being very patient with us as someone in our party was more interested in chatting rather than decide what they wanted. Finally I just ordered for him.

On to the good stuff. The beer selection is solid, Some good stuff on tap and a nice takeout selection with some singles to try in the cooler on the way out the door.

The only negative thing were the prices.A bit expensive for just about everything on the menu for what you got. Example would be $10 for chicken mac-n-cheese when you could make an entire pot full of it for this price and feed the entire neighborhood.Other than that this place is great.

I've been meaning to review TJ's for a while, but I don't usually do Beerfly reviews. That said, this is my favorite bar, by a long shot.

The draft beer selection is fantastic. They keep a nice variety of styles on draft, have electronic chalkboards, update online in realtime and on twitter as well as an updated pipeline. The bottle selection is not the most expansive, but has quality regular offerings. Occassionally they will pick up a case of rare offerings and sell them at extremely fair prices and if they hang around to long will sell them at cost to keep things fresh. They also fill growlers at reasonable costs.

The food is fantastic. It's basically bar food (burgers, wings, wraps, etc.) but done at a higher level than your normal bars and the prices for food are also reasonable. Weekly specials and some seasonal changes to the menu add variety. The TJ's burger is my all-time favorite burger and that's saying a lot.

The ambiance is nice. It's not quite a sports bar, though they do have TV's. The "restaurant" side is quiet while the "bar" side is a little bit more typical of your average beer bar, but not stuffy as some philly area bars tend to be. Just a great place to hang out in a casual atmosphere.

Overall, this is a must visit if you are out in the burbs. Also helpful is it's proximity to the Paoli station on the R5 line if public transportation is desired. The owners are great people and you can tell they put a lot of care into how they run their business.

Will give you a taste of something if your on the fence about a beer. Burgers and roast beef are top notch. Also do flights of beers if i do recall. They sell some bottles for takeout and I believe they do Growler fills. They get there hands on some quality beers. Check there website, its very up to date. Never felt rushed by any of the staff and we were there on a busy night. Service was good, food was good, beer was good. Not much more you can ask for. The bar the right when you enter...has some tables and a "lounge" type area with some sofas. The beer list is displayed on an inverted hdtv. Cool idea. In the dining room you'll find it is divided in to three separate and cozy areas. Tables and booths are available. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. I'll be back for sure!

TJ's is a great find in PA.
My first impression was that it was a bright spacious bar. I didn't go into the dining room, so I can't comment on that. But the bar was one of the best lit bars I have been in. It was early on a Sunday afternoon but still.
The draft selection was clearly displayed on LCD monitors that look like chalkboards...and there were at least three of the displays. The draft selection was a good mixture of styles and brewing regions. The local craft brewery scene made a strong showing on the draft board.
The bottle selection was extensive but compact. Plenty of choices in multiple styles. Something for everyone.
The food was typical bar fare reasonably priced.
That goes for the beers also, priced reasonably.
