A 500ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2018; contract-brewed by Marston's in the UK. Purchased recently from B&M. The label calls it a classic American-style steam beer.
A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear brownish-amber colour with faint floating sediment and moderate carbonation. Forms a large head of frothy white foam that lasts for a moment or two before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of mild grainy malt with hints of barley sugar, faint caramel, subtle yeast and a touch of stewed leaves. Understated and rather bland.
T: Tastes of grainy malt with notes of barley sugar, light caramel, stewed hops, mild yeast esters, earthiness and a twinge of cardboard in the background. Pretty dry, followed by a robust bitterness that verges on harsh.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and average body for the style. OK but insubstantial. Somewhat astringent - dries the palate. Aftertaste of grainy malt, barley, bitter stewed hops and subtle yeast.
O: So-so; balanced but predictably dull. Looks OKish, while the aroma and flavour are a staid blend of malty barley, stewed hops and mild yeast. Thin body. Drinkable but unexciting - no need to rush out and buy it.

500ml bottle £1.25 from B&M, poured into a pint glass. Attractive colour, medium head retention and light carbonation.
Not much of an aroma, and quite thin-feeling in the mouth.
