Deep Devil presents hints of caramel, roasted nuts and sweet breads. Medium in body, it drinks smooth and easy, finishing light, leaving subtle hints of dark toast and brown sugar. Beware, Deep Devil is dangerous … ly delightful.

Malt Style: Pale Ale, Chocolate, Roasted Barley, Wheat
Yeast: Top-Fermenting English
Hops: English Challenger, Fuggles, East Kent Goldings

Pretty enjoyable brown, I prefer on the sweeter side. Sad to see things like this disappear, but I guess the market is just not there these hazy days.

Deep Devil pours a translucent brown color, with a very small head. Sweet dry aroma, candy like notes. Flavor is lighter, sweeter, dry, hints of candy caramel. A bit light with the feel. Overall, easy drinking, a sweeter brown.

This beer poured a slightly cloudy reddish, brown color with a large frothy light brown head. The aroma is primarily sweet and malty. The flavor is a nice combination of spice and malt combined with a pleasant bitter chocolate taste. This beer has a nice creamy texture. Overall, I consider this a very good session beer.

12-oz. bottle took a strong pour for a 1/2 finger of short lived light tan froth with scant spots of lacing. Clear amber brown, dark amber in front of light.
Roasted malt, baked apples and yeasty bread greet the nose with faint hops.
Taste begins neutral and slightly bitter, elements from the smell build during the middle with tea and coffee added faintly. The finish is semi-sweet, chocolate and caramel malt lead to short lived, moderately bitter aftertaste.
Medium light bodied with fizzy carbonation, smooth with a little alcohol bite.
I realize this beer is a few months past the BB date. There is no date on the bottle, I took the risk. Holds up well and still beats some fresher beers. Don't wait too long to try it!

Here I go again, indulging in yet another iteration of a Shipyard Brewing Company horizontal, sampling their wares as they become available to me. I began with a #WatermelonWednesday entry & now I am just continuing the string.

From the bottle: "43.6615 (deg.) N, 70.2553 (deg.) W". Ooh, as a retired U.S. Navy sailor, I LOVE when they talk Lat & Long to me! The house band on Diego Garcia was "Seven Degrees South" as in, of the Equator. Haha.

Having learned my lesson, I did not bother Pop!ping the cap since it was one of those screwed-up screw-top caps. Grr. I kept my emotions in check, though, and performed a slow, gentle pour into the awaiting glass. Once complete, a vigorous in-glass swirl raised just under three fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with moderate retention that formed some nice lacing as it fell. Color was Brown to Dark Brown (SRM = > 22, < 27) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a slightly smoky/roasty chocolatiness, accompanied by a deep caramel quality and a treacle-like slight sourness. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste had a roasty, toasty quality of chocolate, treacle, biscuits and a general nuttiness. It was definitely evocative of an English Brown Ale. I would really hesitate to characterize it as anywhere near semi-sweet so I am calling it semi-dry. I was left with a lingering taste of a chocolate nut candy bar, like one from Cadbury's. Hazelnut, chocolate, treacle & biscuits. Mmm.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle stamped 01-18-2018. Sampled March 13, 2018.

It pours a beautiful looking mahogany brown with a modest, short-lived cream colored head. It looks the way a Brown Ale should look.

Lovely sweet, and roasted caramel malt and barley malt aroma with a more muted earthy hop presence.

The body is smooth and better than medium.

The taste is what I really like about brown ales. Sweet, malty, molasses, with a low to no hop bitterness. I cut my craft beer teeth on brown ales in the 1980's and this hearkens back to those memories I built.
