Pours no carb, little bubbles, dark hazy brown slight chestnut color
Nose big raisiny fruit, fig, date, some alcohol brandy like with little vinous as well, little nutty, slight oxidized port like vinous, fair oak with vanilla and toasted oak, syrup and molasses, candied light bourbon, some fusel alcohol notes
Taste brings a lot of the same, nutty molasses and candy, some caramel and sweet candy malt, lots of dark fruits, some brandy raisin, a huge prune date flavor, fig paste, some vanilla oak and little toasted oak, light bourbon, plenty of oxidation winey port like flavors, but not really cardboard thankfully, light alcohol hints at fusel but never gets there, sticky sweet candy finish, a bit of bitterness
Mouth is fuller bod, syrupy thick, but no carbonation, mild tingly alcohol
Overall not bad, def would have been better with carbonation, barrel was OK but would have liked more, base malt was OK but again not great, all around an average somewhat decent beer but nothing special, typical from Shipyard

A: medium mahogany, with a light and quickly dissipating head. not surprising for a beer of 11.3% abv
4/5
S: A lovley mix of malty aroma and bourbon/oakyness. Its fantastic
4.5/5
T: Lots of smoke, vanilla, charerd oak, HEAVY maltyness. This beer is lovely, just enough oakyness to be noticeable, but it does not overpower the heavy smokey malty base beer. Bitterness is only detectable in the aftertaste, and its very light. A slight boozy sweetness is detectable, but it is not solvent like and adds to the nautral boozynesss that the barrel adds
a well earned 4.75/5
mouthfeel: just the right amount of carbonation to keep the maltyness from becoming to heavy, but not too much to make it sting. Quite nice to be honest.
4.5/5
O: This beer is Very, very good. Really it is. I was surprised that it was made by shipyard and only carried by ABC liquor (in my city that is), but it is a huge step above the other ABC exclusives (Ass kisser). I was very, VERY satisfied with my purchase,
a well earned 4.5/5
Highly advised, best I've had from shipyard.

I will say now, this beer is best drunk young to get the full range of flavor. As it ages the oak over powers it and creates an unpleasant sourness. Otherwise, this ale has a lot going on.
Served it chilled in my mini Hanahpu snifter.
Appearance: pours a mighty tawny port reddish brown with a nice tan head.
Smell: big fresh cut oak notes, vanilla, minty chocolate, sweet malt.
Taste: more oak, caramel malts, sharp hop bite, chocolate fondue, smooth and easy drinking. The oak dominates but a good brew.
