Tasted by half-pint at the Black Bull, Whitechapel, East End London. The pump clip states the name along with a specific term: "Entire Butt", so I suspect it's brewed to replicate the old porter tradition in the 1700s when porter was still served blending three/various threads of beers at pubs rather than made ready as a single type of beer in breweries. Let's see~~
A: pours a dark port-like reddish-brown colour, coming with a thin creamy off-white beer head and a low-carbonated body as far as I could see through.
S: tawny-port like rich grapey aroma upfront, accompanied with touches of black cherry, light smokiness and woody hints of dark malts... very intense aroma with touches of alcohol in each corner, and very pleasant indeed.
T: plum liqueur-like rich and almost oily-textured fruity dark maltiness lubricates the palate; followed by an intensifying dryish-sweet herbal flavour of mixture of dried root herbs and leafy herbs. Also a deeper flavour of fruity hops develops down the palate, before a subtle but dry tea-ish aftertaste lingers up until the very last second of tasting...
M&D: very rounded and slightly oily rich, the mouthfeel makes this medium-heavy weight malty brew all the more accessible and easy to sip. Contrary to my expectation, this one doesn't taste like a porter in the modern sense, rather it's like a complex, herbal as well as fruity, strong winter ale. Lots of flavours to explore, though, and I guess that point stands up to the Entire Butt spirit?!
