Tasted by half-pint at the Black Bull, Whitechapel, E. London, served by a handpump w/o a sparkler. The name refers to a kind of Butterfly, as far as the pump-clip is concerned.
A: amber, clear, coming with a thin foamy head and low carbonation. Fresh and cool.
S: mildly sour-sweet, Goldings-like citric hops with a touch of wild flower scent and faintly berries--typical Nethergate, with the mildly caramely malty base lagging behind.
T: toffee-ish malts upfront on the palate, ensued by a flow of bitter-sweetness manifesting like the aftertaste of dried ground root-herbs, in conjunction with chewy, whole hops with a slightly tannic edge. The bitterness gathers pace and intensifies in depth, before juicy fruity hops, a rough edge of bitter-sweet biscuity aftertaste, and the aroma of hays join force in the very end.
M&D: smoothly-textured and light-bodied, this beer benefits from an impressive length of bitterness that loses strength bit by bit but overall brings about a superb niche to elevate the drinkability of this simple brew. I wonder if this one is dry-hopped.
