Dark copper beer with a white head of large bubbles.

Aroma is resinous and earthy with some vegetal notes.

Thick and sugary with powerful pine cone hops. A bit astringent towards the end with faint vegetal flavours. Alcohol is noticeable. Moderate carbonation.

Cloyingly sweet with strange off-flavours. Not recommended.

Picked up on a massive Montreal beer haul. Pours a clear light copper with a large amount of thick and creamy off-white head with spots of thick lace. Mild aromas of malt and citric hops. A little bit of butterscotch/diacetyl. Decent mouthfeel, with crisp hop bitterness with some caramel malty sweetness. Slightly dry, even at 6% ABV. Average.

Appearance - cloudy pale copper in colour, nice 2 finger head, some good volume and fullness. minimal carbonation present, some good lacing.

Smell - hops, malts, caramel and some strong metallic smells. some bitterness to the nose. i can pick up a hint of a banana/orange combination.

Taste - strong bitterness is what brings this beer to life. i can taste the hops, but the metallic taste really comes through, almost too strong.

Mouthfeel - just more bitterness, not a lot of hops, some fullness added to the feel.

Overall - i am going to try this one again, not sure the freshness as this is totally not what i expected.

Appearance - Slightly hazy orange colour with an average size frothy and fizzy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some really fantastic lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it began to dissipate.

Smell - malts, caramel, oranges, hops

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and the beer feels slightly creamy on the tongue. Most of the taste is made up of caramel mixed with hops and malts. There is also some citrus sweetness at the front and then a very woody dry hop aftertaste at the end.

Drink - Although I found the beer to be a little unbalanced, it was still one of the better IPA's that I've had from a Canadian brewer. I notice there are some mixed reviews on this beer and I suspect that some have gotten some older/expired bottles. I couldn't find a date on my bottle but it tasted fairly fresh.

This beer is caramel in colour with a very fine, creamy head. Its smell gives away the strong hop flavour in store for you while drinking this. Notes of grass, pine, and a bit of bread and malt all mix together for a wonderfully complex nose.

The most impressive part of this beer is its taste. I know that this is subjective, but over-the-top hop flavour with pine and grass is my favourite so I can't resist giving this one a 5.0. Incredibly bitter, complex and tasty, this beer is on the same level as Stone IPA. Very impressive.

Hoppy is very smooth and easy to drink. With a perfect amount of carbonation and a not-too-dry finish, I could drink these all night.

Go find some of this stuff!!!

Poured in a Tulip, result a browish orange amber color with a large white head, laces, medium carb.

nose is hoppy, nutty , some caramal

taste is pretty smooth for an Ipa, pretty good hop flavors tough, some caramal and nutty flavors as well..no citus or grapefruit acidity
more like a rousse

mouthfeel is quite smooth medium carb, medium hoppy after-taste

drinkability: nice brew, not the IPA I expected tough..

A pretty light amber color with a big head that dies down fairly quickly, but leaves some lace on the glass.

Aroma is slightly floral, with a grassy, slightly burnt overtone. The flavor follows suit with a strong grassy character. The bitterness is pretty well balanced with a malty sweetness, appropriate to the style.

A lingering bitterness is slightly cardboardy. This was just purchased in Montreal a few days ago, but I wonder if the bottle is a little aged. The style of the label does not match that shown on their website....hmmm...I wish they had freshness dating.

It hardly seems fair to follow up a Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, the number one rated IPA here, with an IPA with an overall B rating, but I'm surprisingly okay with that.

Pours a nice clear amber with heaps of rising bubbles topped by a bubbly, slightly golden head that dies down and retains in a nice, tight 1/4" cap.

The aroma is oddly sweet like artificial candy and sweet perfume, with just a trace of bad breath. It smells sweetly malty in a caramel way, but yet it's not quite that. Fresh cut lawn clippings lurk in the distance.

The taste is sweet and prickly, with a flowery herbal bitterness that slaps every part of my mouth and lingers long. The label claims "houblon 100% cascade" which I can only assume means "100% cascade hops" which is a real head scratcher for me, as it's way more grassy and leafy and MUCH less citrusy than I was expecting from something that was brewed exclusively with cascades. An odd perfuminess lingers in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is light. Good carbonation.

This is a really odd beer. Their website (www.betf.ca) seems to indicate they were going for an American IPA, but really all you get is a really grassy ale with a good dose of crystal malt.

Bottle with no date poured into a tulip.

A: Looks very nice. It has a smallish white head that retains fairly well atop a slightly more reddish body than I expected for an IPA. Leaves decent lacing.
S: Caramel dominates with some fruity notes. Smelling almost like a barley wine, and it makes me wonder initially if too much crystal malt is being used in the grist... Later in the drink earthy notes come through.
T: Sweet caramel and toffee hit first, with grassy notes hitting the palate shortly thereafter. A healthy dose of bitterness finishes. Decent, and more of an East Coast IPA as I was expected more hop flavour... Still the grassy thing isn't doing it for me. If this is 100% Cascade (as the label claims in french), count me out.
M: Light carbonation, feels crisp though as the bitterness balances the sweetness nicely.
D: Grass? No thanks. Disappointed as I bought this after having had their excellent Bitter.

Pours a copper-orange with huge white head. Great head retention and lacing down the glass. Smell has citrus hops with lots of sweet caramel and nuttiness. Taste has lots of bitterness, but also very sweet. A very well balanced IPA. Great carbonation level. A friend of mine brought this back from a trip to Montreal just as an extra for me (based on the name I think) and I'm glad she did!

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral green hops with some bitter notes. Taste is also dominated by some floral hops with light citrus notes and a bitter finish. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well done with lots of floral notes and limited bitterness; malt backbone might be a bit light.

Bottle. Nice reddish copper pour with off white head. Nice cascade aromas coming off this one light and peppery, grapefruit. Quite bitter taste, hoppy and the malts are very light english session pale ale like. Lacks a bit of malt sweetness to my taste this leans on the over hopped side. Well carbonated full mouthfeel and some alcohol warmth. Good.

Color is copper, a little dark and looks like caramel. Clear. The head is soapy looking and sticks well to the glass. In the aroma I get nuts, caramel and hops. However, the hops are faint. On the taste, it is nutty at the beginning and then it switch to caramel. The finish is bitter. Earthy bitterness. Maybe some wood too, I'm not sure. Medium body. I would put this beer in the aggressive category. The bitterness is pretty harsh, and thus it is not for everyone, and lingers in the mouth.

A good beer overall. I would have guess that there would be more citrus in the nose and taste since this was made with 100% cascade hops, based on the sticker on the bottle.

L-Lovely amber. Head fades away quickly, leaves a thin layer. Decent lacing.
S-Lots of honey. A little citrus. Faint wet paper
T-Grapefruit up front. Wood? Bitter all the way with very little sweetness. Hops!
M- When I want an I.P.A this is the mouthfeel I want
D- Very good. It is bitter though but when thats what you like... highly drinkable.

I really did like drinking this and would session although it isn't an ideal session beer.

On tap at Vices Et Versa. The beer has a nice reddish color. Good lacing and retention.

The nose is hoppy (makes sense to me), pine, citrus and some maltiness.

Tastes of bitter piny hops, soft malt background, a little orange and lots of citrus. This is a great easy drinking IPA.

Festival Bière et Saveur 08. A nice bitterness, a C-hop taste, balanced by caramel. A little sugar on Grapefruit. Outstanding hop aroma. Easy drinking and better than average beer competing with my basement with many many good IPAs. ABove average Canadian brewery.
