16 oz. can. Black body with an ample khaki head. Smells of heavily roasted malt and a hint of caramel. Taste is more tilted toward caramel, chocolate, and nutty malts. Deep roasted coffee malt and bitterness in the back end. Finishes earthy pleasantly charred. Medium body, surprisingly chewy, in fact. Delivers a wonderfully balance full flavor.

Pours a garnet-pitch black color with a finger tan head that is neither robust nor anemic. Nice lace, good retention. The aroma is immediately sweet and cocoa-ey. Chocolate, light molasses, non-bitter coffee flavors, toasty brown bread. The flavor follows the nose with sweetness up front, chocolate, a bready-toasty-melanoidin-y middle and a moderate roast finish.
It is smooth with a lingering finish and moderate carbonation that is still assertive enough to give it a pretty creamy feel.
This is a pretty on the nose dark lager that I enjoyed very much. It is nice in that it tastes both to style and its own thing. It is a little more porter-y than a schwartzbier but I have no idea really what I mean there. It is big and bold without being big and bold. The flavors and aromas are a little agressive and it doesn't quite bow down to total lager unobtrusiveness, but that actually makes it better. there is a lot going on for a 5.5% lager. This was very well done and I will definitely pick up a couple more cans if I can find it.
