Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of roasted malt with light black chocolates notes and some very faint notes of whiskey. Taste is also dominated by some dry roasted malt notes with some black chocolates notes with light subtle flavours of whiskey and quite a bit of residual sugar. Interesting but would have liked it even better with more pronounced whiskey and maple notes. It also seems like some of the harsher notes from the dry roasted malt clashed with the sweeter maple notes.

Thanks to David for this bottle.

A - Slight gushing on opening. Poured dark black with two fingers of medium brown head that slowly receded to a thin layer.

S - A big roast profile is immediately noticeable with char, smoke and a light whiskey presence.

T - Follows the nose: a massive bitter roast profile, smoke, char, and lighter notes of oak and whiskey. A faint hint of maple in the finish. The massive bitter roast profile completely overpowers the barrel presence.

M - Full body but not viscous at all. Moderate carbonation.

This was a very good stout, but, I did not taste the maple flavor or any of the whiskey flavor from being aged in whiskey barrels. The taste was not to strong, very smooth and I really enjoyed it. But, because I did not taste the maple or the whiskey influence from aging in whiskey barrels, I put a 3.5 as the overall.

Shared with olivianjeremie, part of our haul from the 2nd anniversary party.

Poured from a 750ml. bottle, no #freshbeer info.

Cocoa beans, big time, in the flavor, very mild whiskey traces. The look is completely black and viscous with a dark brown head (think a rich chocolate milk). Mouthfeel is very smooth and creamy but still some decent bitterness. Some chewy chocolate in the taste. Not much maple as well.

It seems the barrel aging smooth out the base beer which was kind of coarse. Would have scored higher but i was expecting more whiskey flavors imparted and that wasn't the case. Very tasty but not as billed.
