Review from 2012 I found in my database with the note "no entry"; don't remember the issue but was unable to enter this at the time to BA (this is the second vintage Bottleworks collaboration I've had to add after the fact, maybe there was an issue with collaborations in one of the BA database updates).
Five year old, properly cellared bottle, poured into a Maudite snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing black in the glass. Three finger medium brown head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit. Flavor starts with toasted malt and dark fruit with a slightly sour, earthy, hop flavor developing. Finishes sharp with attenuated hops, fairly dry. Medium to heavy bodied with a good mouth feel. This bottle is probably headed over the edge from its peak of aging. Still flavorful and interesting, but the hops are tired and the other flavors no longer hold their own through the finish. An obviously well made stout that I'm glad I had the chance to try, but have no baseline with the fresh one.
