This is a dark brown brew with a nearly brown, two finger head with moderate retention and some pretty serious lacing. The smell is overpoweringly chocolate. Some significant amount of actual chocolate must be added to this beer, and it almost gets in the way of drinking it. With each tilt of the glass toward the mouth a rush of syrupy processed chocolate flavors surges to the nose. Its taste has underlying elements of caramelly malted barley, but nothing escapes the gravitational pull of the chocolate. This is a chewy creamy, medium-full-bodied, rich and smooth brew. The intense and artificial chocolate keeps this beer at a distance from me. By contrast, Youngs seems much more natural of a chocolaty taste to me. If seriously chocolate beers are your thing, this one might be for you.
