I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at the Issaquah Brewhouse.
Appearance: rich orange hue with plenty of haze and a finger of frothy ivory foam.
Smell: sweet, citrusy and a bit herbal. Not bad.
Taste: herbal, piney and citrusy with plenty of sweetness. Lots of stuff going on here, but overall it's muddled.
Mouthfeel: medium body with an OK carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: a decent enough IPA, although a bit messy.

On draught at the Issaquah pub, Contraband is dark, bunt gold with a nice, tight eggshell head that leaves tons of lace.
Smell has some sweet citrus hops (which are sadly missing from the taste), lime. Not robust, but attractive.
Taste is very earthy, lots of bitterness. The hop flavor is stemmy. No resin, citrus, or anything else that I look for in a NW IPA. Not getting anything from the malt either, other then texture.
Mouthfeel is chewy, and bone dry. Medium bodied.
Drinkability is ok. Not really my taste in IPA, but if your a bitterness fien, and dig the woods vibe of European hops, you may find it to your liking.

A: Sappy reddish amber, like a sunset but clear as day. Single finger off white head. Great retention.
S: Floral, almost like perfume. A little over powering but interesting. Dry cedar and hoppy and reminding me of a cigar box.
T: Taste follows the smell. Hop dominated upfront. Not much malt. Finishes bitter with overwhelming floral flavors. Very Belgium-like.
M: Medium bodied, good carbonation. Very light.
D: I wouldn't order another one. The finishing floral tastes are too overwhelming and aren't balanced well with the bitterness.
I thought this was from Rogue in OR not the Issaquah brewhouse they own in WA. No matter either way. This tastes much like a Belgium IPA not an American IPA.

Though the entire bar at the Issaquah Brewhouse inexplicably smelled like boiled pasta, I was able to extract a piney, resinous smell from this otherwise low-intensity IPA. Contraband (must be a good story behind that name) is heavy with modest lace and sluggish carbonation. It is not deft on the tongue - not a beer that dances, but carries the somber weight of a full-bodied ale. It is deep amber with a sweet, piney hop flavor and a kick of zing bittering. Not bad, but I may have been served a tired pour.
