This strong Scotch-style ale is aged in bourbon oak barrels to achieve a hearty complexity that is at once intriguing, and also challenging to appreciate. It is a very smoky beer - almost rauch-like - in a manner that might scare the more casual imbiber away. There is more smoke than malt at play and hops don't feature prominently. The beer is deep garnet color and comes served in a Rogue goblet.
Mac Frog is a bold ale with a harsh finish that leaves a wisp of smoke in the breath. I found it stimulating, but others might be turned off for this very reason.
