650 ml bottle; bottled on 16 Dec. 2009; served in a Unibroue snifter.

Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a thin and fragile tan head.
Negligible lacing. Clear.

Aroma: fruity, dark bread with hints of peat and cognac.

T: more peat in the taste, but the most striking thing is that this is rather tart for the style. Slightly medicinal, yet none of the booziness the aroma suggests. Plenty of dark fruit, including prune. Lightly smokey aftertaste. 3.25

M: medium body; low carbonation; rather dry finish.

O: an odd, moderately complex and interesting dubbel most likely to appeal to fans of Scotch Ales. Truer to style and a bit better after warming.
