Brown sugary malt aroma. Slight bit of hops and some dried fruit. None of these is overyly prominant or strong. Just a hint of Diacetyl.
Deep ruby, slightly cloudy, nice smallish but long lasting head.
Big flavor of crystal malts and dried fruit and some darker roasts. Kind of like a classic English bitter amped up a few notches. I get the diacetyl but it's enough in the low level range to add complexity instead of being nasty. Hops are pretty restrained. This is a malt dominant beer more in the English style that the Pac. Northwest. (That's good, I'll keep this in mind when I'm in a malt mood instead of a hop). There's a lot of malt complexity and some interesting fruity yeast character.
Body is medium-high. Slightly warming from alcohol. Carbonation level is medium to light.
Very pleasant beer. Easy to drink but also has some strength and weight behind it. Exactly what I like in a winter warmer. Not so challenging that drinking is a chore but strong enough to fend off the winter cold. MMM
