I’m inclined to put Bushwacker in the old ale category for its bold, perplexing properties and alcoholic kick. It is murky, rusty-nail colored with a body that refuses to even suggest carbonation and scoffs at window dressings like lace or a cap of head. Aroma is minimal, while hop flavor is bold. Yet big, grain-sugar malts lend assertive balance. It’s like drinking a complex and engaging storm cloud.

Winthrop’s most distinctive and defiant ale.

Aroma has a big malty backbone with lots of darker crystal-type grain. A lot of hops but it's definitely more malt. Hops are flowery smelling.

Deep reddish brown, a little cloudy with a small persistant layer of fine foam head.

Flavor starts off with a nice bitter bite but then washes out with strong malty flavors. Lots of roast character from some darker grains. Some cereal grain nuttiness and again the darker crystal. Hop flavor is pretty strong on the back end. Nice citrussy hop flavor. The aftertaste is pretty much hop oils. I like it because it's definitely a hop head type beer but it shows some nice balance.

Full bodied beer. There's definitely some warming in the stomach but it isn't noticeably alcoholic in the mouth.

Not so strong that you can't put down a pint or two but definitely fuller than your average beer. Good strong Ameican Ale. Way bigger than your average IPA but smaller than most DIPA or a Barleywine. Pretty yummy beer.

This was a great beer I had at Redbones. Very hoppy but notyet an IPA. Seemed like a mixture of an IPA and a winter lager. It finished with a vert tart like hop bite. Dry indeed. Took a little getting used to at first because of the aftertaste. Much different than an IPA aftertaste. Dark copper/amber color. Light head that stuck through most of the beer.

This beer poured a cloudy reddish brown color with a very little head. Very smooth in terms of taste and a great balance of malt and hops. I noticed a sweetness coming through with this beer as well. The description of this beer talks about lots of aromatic hops but I didn't get that at all. Tasted more like a solid winter ale than anything else.
As this is on tap at Redbones, I am sure that we will see many more reviews.

I had this again this past weekend and it was even better. Even more smooth so I am changing my drinkability score.

Very nice amber color. Nose is nicely hoppy with some malt odors mixed in for good measure. Mouthfeel nice and solid feeling, but not too much so. Moderate bitterness balances well with the malts and presents a sweetness followed by a nice dry finish.
