Presentation: One of four ever-rotating Guest Beers on sale at the Wakefield Labour Club (a.k.a. ‘The Red Shed’) during a recent trip back home to England. Sampled on the night that we headed out on the annual Wakefield CAMRA Belgium Trip, I like to sleep on the Coach trip down to the Dover, so I opted for a pint of this “strong” 5% brew.

Rectangular dark brown Pumpclip has the beer listed as “Eastwood the Brewer” on it and the words “Old Skool”. Listed at a strength of 5.0%ABV.

Appearance: Lightly hazed chestnut brown body with a beige colored head. Frothy top soon disappears and breaks to reveal a broken surface, strange looks as this cask was fresh for sure. Conditioning was solid but the cold flat dark milky tea appearance certainly did not demonstrate this.

Nose: Soggy wet cardboard, wood shavings and damp sandpaper. Smells like a Carpenters jock strap. What the heck!?

Taste: Lumpy caramel malts dominate the flavors, no hops, at least not discernable to me and the finish has a horrid metallic twang which had me wondering if this brew was even fit to serve. A few others seemed far from impressed too, but they had played safe and either only got a Half-Pint or better still a sample taste. Finish has a thin toffee feel with some brown sugar. Just a complete mess.

Mouthfeel: Middling conditioning seemed OK, but the malts are chewy in a stodgy way. Porridge like on the swallow.

Drinkability: Got half way through, left the rest and ordered a 375ml bottle of Cantillon Kriek, I needed something big and sharp to take away the awful residual sugary tastes.

Overall: I had just heard that the Shed had some Eastwood and Sanders brews in the Cellar, but that they would not be on sale until we returned from Belgium after the Easter weekend. Having spied this for some reason I thought I would get the same deal. Big mistake! Don’t mix up Eastwood the Brewer with Eastwood & Sanders, same “Eastwood” but they are far from their same quality beers.

Shockingly awful. Not impressed at all. Puddle Juice.
