Pours a finger of soda-poppy brown head. Pitch liquid with brown edgings. Smells roast, coacoa powder, anise, and some dark fruit.
Tastes dry, strong roast, chocolate, and cookie dough. Ashy from the strong dark grains and a bit of grassy from hops. Mild alcohol sting is clean of fusels. Hops come across as noble and earthy, like tettnanger. Thick body is sticky, though the grasy helps fight off some of the cloying. Modest carbonation. Decent drinkability.
