Copenhagen 20/8 2022. 50 cl can from Meny, Borups Allé, Frb. F. As "Berliner Pilsner". Green can with the iconic Berlin Bear carrying beer in red. An alluring tagline for the tourist. Berlin, Du bist so Wunderbar.
Pours clear pale yellow with a big white head. Settles as thin, frothy, almost transparent layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. Crawling up the sides of the glass. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is moderately intense with a light odor of sweet malts, grains and a little citric fruit. Sweet, pale malts, bread, grass, lemon. whiff of sour grains.
Fairly strong carbonation. Thin, watery, lively and tingling - almost fizzy - texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a stronger bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter and lingers for a while. Finish is rather dry.
Crisp, clean and fairly bitter.

On tap ( and lot of them) in Berlin at a little nice outdoor place with some folks I meet at a conference. Not surprising, given the name, that this (along with other Berliner Kindl's stuff) is probably the most readily flowing brew in its namesake city.
It's also one of the more generic pilsners you'll find in Germany--a step above the Euro pale lager, and a step further above the American pils--but ultimately it's a middle-of-the-road, mild, inoffensive and bland beer. Decent malt base, mild herbaciosuness, decent body, but no aspect really stands out here.

Pretty basic euro lager taste, comparable to any other standard canned beer in Germany. (By that I mean it's still pretty good.) In Frankfurt I see people on the street drinking Binding, in Berlin this seems to be the standard choice.

I lived in Berlin for 2 years and this is all we drank. It was the best thing going. We would have a lot of get togethers and it was always a hit. This beer looks very inviting. Although it appears to be a summer brew, it is very drinkable year round. The smell is a bit grassy or hoppy with more earthy overtones but, not overwhelming. Smell in clean and fresh, nothing like American beer which often smells soapy. The taste is very clean and leaves an aftertaste that want you craving more. The mouth feel is where this is lacking. The feel seems to be more apt to the summer months and is good in the winter, but I prefer the mouthfeel of a heavier beer in the winter months. I surely miss having this brew around since I live in the US now. I do a lot of homebrewing and would love to recreate this but have found no recipes online. If you know any, please share.

On-tap at Das Meisterstück, Berlin, Germany
A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a two finger high bright white head that died down and left a layer of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of breads malts and grassy hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has a light to moderate amount of bitterness; the hops mostly serve to mask any sweetness from the malts.
M: It feels nerarly medium bodied and quite dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation—the dryness lingers into the finish.
O: This is a nice pilsner-it has a nice malty base but there are enough hops to keep it bitter and dry.
Serving type: on-tap

Served cool from 500ml bottle purchased for £1.09 from Aldi, into pilsner mug.
L) Pale yellow colour, clear, lots of bubbles, fluffy white 2cm head. Looks the part.
S) Pilner malt and saars hops for sure, maybe a bit of skunkiness, although it is a brown bottle.
T) Clean pilsner malt taste, some slight sweetness, and a nice subtle hop bitterness.
F) Fizzy and light; the bitterness just takes away from the refreshment slightly.
O) A good pils, and for £1.09 for 500ml its a bargain. Will definitely buy again.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2015. ABV stated as 4.8%. Purchased a little while back from Aldi.
A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A crystal-clear pale gold hue with good carbonation. Yields a large head of frothy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before reducing to a patchy surface layer.
S: Aroma of light malt with hints of husky grain, stewed leaves, faint earthy yeast and a twinge of overdone veg. Fairly average.
T: Tastes of light malt with a crisp, dry finish. Notes of subtle grain, husks, stewed leaves, mild overcooked veg and faint yeast esters. Well-attenuated, followed by a delicate bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of light, husky malt, stewed leaves and faint yeast.
O: Pretty standard fare - decent but nothing to write home about. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are relatively bland with vague hints of malt. Noble hop character is lacking. Body is OK. Not a patch on their Berliner Weisse - no need to hunt it down.
