Picked up in Berlin on my trip last New Year. Pours a clear black colour with a white foamy head. Aromas of toasted nut, caramel & roasted malt. Aromas of roasted wheat, toast, toasted nuts and caramel. Medium/light body and medium/low carbonation. Aftertaste is of a mild sweet roasted bitter finish.

This schwarzbier pours an opaque black color with a decent amount of carbonation and a thin, white head. The smell is almost non-existent, but it is somewhat malty. The taste is clean, but somewhat unremarkable. It has flavors of bread and caramel imparted by the malts malts with a little bitter hoppiness that comes through in the finish. It is slightly heavier of body than the average schwarzbier, which tends to be on the lighter end of medium. Made by the same brewery as Berliner Kindl, I would say that this is a higher end model.

On tap at Zum Schusterjugen.
Look is deep dark brown capped with a white head that laces all the way down.
Aroma or rich sweet malt and chocolate.
Taste is rich malt but not too sweet, nice balance.
Silky smooth mouthfeel.
Overall this is a great schwarzbier, richer and smoother that Kostritzer.

It tastes and smells on steel. Not for me.

Pretty basic black German beer. Not the strange Umami-Aftertaste of the leading brand, but no special beer either. Tastes better from the bottle.

Solid middle of the road Dunkles. Easy going sweet malt flavour. Touches of light fruitiness. No real complexity. Does the job though.

Straight outta the bottle in Berlin, purchased from local Kaisers/
Wasnt crazy about this though it was served at room temperature. No real balance, maltyness was to molasses based, no real balance of crispness or bitterness, almost more of a malt liquor, though not incredibly strong. Would have been better on ice.

Bottle into unlabelled goblet in Berlin, Germany.
A: Sheer black, 2 finger tan head of nice thickness and inviting cream.
Sm: Slightly roasted barley. Very light scent.
T: Slight cream open to body comprised of: hint of toffee, hops, a subtle ever-so-light touch of caramel, and subtle chocolate that partially bleeds into the first half of the finish.
Mf: Smooth; complementary of taste. Drys at the climax, a good effect.
Dr: Decent but heavy, and certainly pricey by Berlin standards.

Poured into a 30cL wine-style glass.
A: Aptly yclept schwarzbier (blackbeer) -- Dark opaque black with a frothy head and a ruddy hue around the edges. Good lacing. I like the way this looks.
S: Not much at all. The strongest scent is unpleasantly metallic. I assumed this was the gold-rimmed glass, but after smelling a friend's Märkischer Landmann the next day on-tap in a different establishment, I concluded it was the beer. Aside from this, a vague malty sweetness.
T: A watery initial taste builds throughout the taste, going through stages of malt, metal, roasted bitterness, and breadiness, before culminating in a dark-bitter pumpernickel flavour.
M: Pleasant at first, but not so much by the end.
D: Drinkable and good enough, but not unusually enjoyable. A solid dark beer, often the only one I found on the menu iin Berlin.

This beer is almost black with ruby and veiled reflection. Dark beige foam, firm, which sadly disappeared very quickly after my first mouthful: what a pity!
Smells quite slight, with hints of dark malt and a little caramelized, and not particularly complex.
The flavour is slightly more pronounced: you can perceive better the caramel tone and the dark malts, with a little liquorice on the finish, however, tends to have little structure and to be watering too much.
It is easily drinkable and in quantity, of course, but the quality is not exceptional: we say that I would drink it again, but I'm not going to try this one on purpose.
