Berliner Kindl-Schultheiss-Brauerei GmbH “Prater Pils”
€3,70/,4L vom fass @ Prater Biergarten, Berlin, DE on German Reunification Day 03.10.21
Notes via stream of consciousness: The Biergarten is fairly empty, but it’s also fairly early in the afternoon. The bar man has put effort into the pour and I have before me a beer with a clear gold body and a full head of densely white foam. The head retention is quite good, but we’ll see about the lacing. The aroma is distinctly grainy with some mild herbal and spicy hops. The flavor follows, but fuller as usual. The malt is sweetish, grainy, and grassy and hay-like so I’m assuming that it’s 100% Pilsner malt but who knows, there might be something else in there. It’s threaded through with herbal and spicy hops that don’t lack. At the same time it’s certainly not overdone - this is exactly what Germans love. A strong bitterness keeps it in check and leads to a dry finish with short lingering herbal hops. In the mouth it’s medium bodied and crisp with a fine-bubbled, seemingly natural, standard carbonation level. Looking back, the head has held up well and the lacing is quite nice. I wasn’t expecting much of this beer but it’s really quite nice. I’ll take this over a “Berliner Pilsner” any day ~ of course, being poured fresh from the tap makes a difference as well. Still, sehr schöne!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
