A: Honey colored, and somewhat hazy. Perhaps my pour wasn't aggressive enough, but the head was thin and quickly fading.
S: Complex and rich. Smoky peat is the first aroma to meet my nose, and I'm immediately reminded of scotch whisky from Islay. A second whiff reveals tart, fruity aromas I'd expect from a sour. Phenol and wet leather aromas are also present. Faint, spicy notes of pepper are perceptible as well.
T: Definitely a sour! Tartness floods the tongue from start to finish. Along the way, there's just a fleeting hint of sweetness, a nice balance from the smokiness, some funky, earthy undertones, and a bit of medicinal bitterness in the finish.
M: Moist, rather thin, and not well carbonated. Just a hint of dryness in the finish.
O: If you like Laphroaig or Ardbeg whisky, and you like sour ale, you'll love this beer, but I understand that many won't. My biggest complaint was the anemic level of carbonation -- more bubbles would have made for a nicer head and livelier mouthfeel. Quite pricy for what you get (about $1 per ounce), but as a special-occasion or shared beer, it's worth a try.
