Pours a hazy amber with very little head. Aroma of lactic sourness. Very fruity with strawberry tones. Taste is very different. Less sourness, much more earthy and Brett derived flavors. Mild smokiness and background fruit notes. A little cherry pie and horsey flavors. Maybe a hint of enteric. Mouthfeel is light with medium light carbonation. Finishes with a mild fruity and alcohol sweetness. Overall very characterful, but in some ways the Brett may have ran away in he flavor and has become too dominant.

Poured from bottle into tulip glass.

A: Caramel color, opaque almost murky, lack of any noticable carbonation

S: Heavy oak, tart fruit

T: Mild malt flavor on the front of the palate, follows through with a sweetness that intensifies as it finishes

M: Flatness leaves flavors short lived on the palate, beer texture is ghastly thin

O: Not sure if the lack of carbonation was intentional or the by product of bad packaging but it really leaves this beer mediocre. I was really excited by the aroma and expected more complexity than what hit my palate.

How served: 12.7 oz hard red foiled cap with a built in plastic mini corked bottle which was poured into an Augustijn tulip.

Notes: 2009 Vintage

A: This bottle opened with a weak hiss. The pour revealed a murky deep mahogany color with only a few tiny bubbles on the surface.

N: The nose was musky, with hints of oak, dark fruits and acidic.

T: The taste was oaky, woodsy & musky with notes of cherries, prunes and raisins. There was a very light sweetness balanced against a mild tartness, neither overpowers the other. The beer finished dry with a slick, smooth warming mouthfeel.

M: This beer had a light to medium body with no carbonation.

O: Overall I like and enjoyed this beer. Also for a beer which poured flat it was quite drinkable. If this beer had a little more carbonation I would have bumped up the scores!

no head on a murky amber body. lots of dark fruit with fig, cherry, strawberry, caramel and molasses. The flavor is hard to drink. The wine barrel aging is very much a factor with this one tasting like an old cab thats cold or something. Nothing much in the way of hops. The yeast and herbal presence you want from a Belgian are there. Coats the palate and has a chewy presence. No carbonation at all. This is a strange beer that wasnt very enjoyable to drink. Maybe I need more of a wine palate to appreciate it, its just too hard to get down.

Poured from a 11.2 oz bottle.

A: Pours a cloudy sunburst orange color with lots of floating particulates. A cream, dense white head sits on top and leaves behind sheets of lacing.

S: Very nice funky smell includes sour green apples and lemons with touches of oak. There is a profound woodiness with notes of blackberries.

T: The taste is quite different from its aroma. It starts off a little citrus-y and moves on to hints of woodiness. There is a big butterscotch finish.

M: It is somewhat chewy and finishes with a dense feel. There is a light crispness from the citrus notes that cleanses the palate.

O: I couldn't really get a grip on this one. It is very complex and seemed to evolve as you drink it. All I know is I like it and I want more.

A- Lovely cloudy golden orange. Bubbly head with moderate lacing on glass.

S- Very sour initially, with hints of green apples and lemons, moves into grapes and strawberries with some oak, and also pleasant floral notes.

T- Much different than I anticipated by smelling it. Deceptively sweet, but lethally smooth. Has a butterscotch finish, but is refreshingly dry despite this. Although not what I expected, undeniably pleasant.

M- Low carbonation, but remains somewhat light in body despite the rich flavors.

O- Smells like a geuze, tastes like a quad, drinks like a saison. Really interesting beer. I wouldn't call it a favorite, but I will revisit this one indefinitely.
