Appearance - Pours a cloudy straw gold with a thin line of white head.

Smell - Banana, clove, yeast, wheat, lemon.

Taste - A good dose of heffy flavours. Banana, clove, yeast is all in there. Nice wheat and lemon balance.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall - Nice traditional hefeweizen flavours in this brew by Half Pints. Wish the head retention was a bit better, but otherwise a solid hef.

Poured from a 660ml bottle into a stemmed tulip glass
Received from tbadiuk as a trade extra (Thanks!).

A: A dark straw color with a slight orange hue pouring to 1-2 fingers of soft white head, settling quickly. The head reduces to s sudsy collar and leaves behind some nice lacing.

S: Pretty standard wheat nose, lots of wheat (obviously) and yeast with some lemon and coriander.

T: Again, a big wheat profile with lots of yeast and bread characteristics. There is also some nice lemon and spiciness (coriander and orange peel) and maybe a bit of fruitiness in the back. The finish is short and very clean.

M: Medium body and lots of carbonation.

O: It looks great, smells great, tastes great and has a great name…what’s not to like! A quality example of classic style.

Special thanks to tdadiuk for sending this beer out west.

A: Pours a hazy golden honey with 1 finger of bone white head with minimal lacing.

S: Wheat and grains along with slightly under ripe bananas. Hints of alcohol esters in the background.

T: Taste follows the smell, wheat and bananas with slight notes of pepper.

M: Low carbonation with a clean crisp finish.

O: Clean, crisp and wheaty, this is a nice summer sessional beer that is easy to drink and enjoy.

341ml twist off bottle with the cap dipped in wax. Poured in a weizen glass.

Clear golden with lots of carbonation streams. Bright white head is 1/4 inch on the pour but quickly recedes to a thin ring around the edge.

Fruity aroma. Banana, strawberry and some cloves.

Cloves become more present in the flavour. They come out off the start and are joined by the banana right before the carbonation rush scrubs the tastebuds leaving a tangy finish.

Medium bodied. Exceptionally smooth. Velvety and soft with moderate carbonation.

Refreshing and highly drinkable. Not as strongly flavoured as other Hefe's I've had. The flavours are definitely rounded out and mellowed more, but it makes for a nice relaxing experience. Would be fabulous on a deck on a hot day in summer.

Thanks to kjyost for this. Split with my wife.

Poured from a 341ml. bottle.

Appearance: Lots of head with a 1 finger retention. Little wisps of yeast in a light honey colored body and not very hazy due to me not pouring the yeast in.

Smell: Smells like puréed bananas and a bit of bread with not much spices.

Taste: Doughy a bit with lots of banana flavor though still lacks cloves and other spices. Regardless, it's still tasty and has a tiny salty twinge in the very finish.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is low but the feel is thick though not overbearing.

Drinkability: A breeze to drink and enjoyable.

Overall: A good wheat beer with some nice flavor. A perfect summer brew.

Hefeweizens are one of the only styles were cloudiness is not only acceptable but favorable. In fact, I find this deep, concentrated haze to be rather encouraging; that, and the caked layer of sediment on the bottom of the bottle, tell me this was done right and should be mighty flavourful. (Its bright apricot colour ain't too hard on the eyes either.)

The appearance may have implicitly suggested a well crafted, tasty beer but the aroma strongly, and expressively, insists of it. A fragrant bouquet, furnished with both savor and spice, endowed with banana-like esters and adorned in pungent white pepper-like phenols flourishes beneath the nostrils and well beyond the confines of the glass.

In the end, however, neither quite live up to their promise. Weizen Heimer talks a better game than it can deliver with regards to spicy, fruity yeast and crisp, luscious wheat malt. The taste isn't without traces of banana and clove, but it's not exactly armed to teeth with them either. No matter, it's still tasty (just not as tasty enough to meet expectations).

The problem has less to do with flavour and more to do with mouthfeel, or, more precisely, a lack there of. For one, the bubbles need to speed up and/or multiply; the beer falls flat on the tongue, leaving a pungently earthy taste from the Hallertau hops and an astringently spicy note from the yeast to linger in a decidedly unfavorable aftertaste.

A "weizenheimer" is apparently another way of calling someone a wise guy (as in Three Stooges' "wise guy, eh?") and it also makes a pretty clever name for a German wheat beer. As for the beer itself there's nothing funny about it; it could use a few tweaks but otherwise makes a very serious case about contending as one of Canada's best hefes.

A - Pours a cloudy golden orange colour with a thin layer of head which dissipates quickly leaving no noticeable lacing.

S - Very fruity with bananas, cloves, orange zest and a grassy wheat scent on the finish.

T - Very fruity with bananas, orange and pineapple noticeable. Wheaty grass noticeable on the finish, but it is not bitter or dry, making you craving more.

M - Very light, goes down very smoothly.

D - I have yet to experience a Half Pints bevy which falls short of my expectations. This one is particularly delicious, the best part being that the flavours are mild but still quite noticeable. The fruitiness and mild wheat flavours are the greatest appeal. Typically I am turned off by the wheatiness of such brews, but this one is easily sessionable, providing a perfect balance.

341ml bottle - great name for a hefeweizen, I gotta say.

This beer pours a mildly hazy, medium tarnished golden yellow colour, with one finger of weakly foamy, and mostly soapy dirty white head, which disappears quite quickly, leaving a minimum of random splotchy and sudsy lace around the glass.

It smells of banana chips, zesty cloves, crackery and grainy semi-sweet wheat malt, and a dusty, musty, and ashy essence. The taste is more nondescript grainy wheat, a touch of mild banana bread, ethereal white pepper, faintly spicy cloves, and a burgeoning metallic stoniness.

The carbonation is moderate, just a wee tickle here and there in its otherwise generic frothiness, the body on the light side, but mostly smooth, with a suggestion of airy creaminess. It finishes pretty dry, the musty spiced wheat and well faded fruitiness all that remains.

I have to say, I got a weird, almost macro lager-like undercurrent in the flavour of this hefeweizen. Perhaps, with the sedate usual suspects, the mustiness is masquerading as something it is not. Whatever the reason, a less than enthralling offering from Half Pints - I guess they all can't be winners, eh?

From a 341 ml brown bottle, neck dipped in green wax. Pours out a cloudy golden hue, one finger of creamy white head that settles within a minute.

The expected banana esters and clove phenols, earthy, almost smoky malt character. Slight bready malt and wheat tartness.

Very malt balanced flavour for this wheat ale, rounded bready softness, masked phenols and esters, with a quenching zing of wheat and citrus tartness on the finish. Huksy graininess lingers into the aftertaste.

Light mouthfeel, medium-low carbonation that still offers a bit of spritz, creamy smooth texture.

Not quite up to par with what Half Pints is normally capable of.

341ml wax dipped bottle poured into pint glass june5 2010

A super cloudy golden orange that's hazy enough that I can't see any carbonation, fast falling fingers width of head leaves a few patches of lace

S mild banana with a little spice and some citrus

T not far from the smell but with a little cereal with some bubblegum, pretty good example of the style a 4.25 would have been dropped here if possible

M I may not have been able to see many bubbles through the haze but they are there and it's pretty light in the mouth, no issues here

D gulp, gulp, gone, this went down pretty quick and was a perfect match for the sunshine. this is a great summer beer perfect for a patio session

yet another solid well rounded beer from Half Pints, not sure why it's in a wax capped bottle but whatever works. I would drink this again with out doubt and would love to see some taps of this stuff this far west, thanks Erica for hooking me up

Has the look down pat. Cloudy/hazy aprocot color, nice thick bone white head..good lacing.

Banana aroma is there along with some nice pepper spice. Strange citrus like aroma though..kinda like lemon & onions.

Not what I was expecting, but still decent. Lot's of citrus peel ( lemon) with a solid malt backbone and nice bananna undertone. Wave of grainy malts towards the middle. Finishes quite tart with some nice clove spiciness.

Very smooth mouthfeel.

Interesting, I was hoping for a bit more traditional take and flavours. Still worth trying out and the tartness will be a hit come summer.

Pours a hazy orange juice like colour, slightly peachy yellow hues. A creamy white head that slowly falls to a nice film and decent lacing.

Aroma of pepper and cloves, loads of banana, a touch of lemon zest and orange lingering around. There is a touch of herbal character and a nice fruityness. lovely.

The taste is of banana, cloves, a touch of bubblegum fruityness, but not as much as what is in the nose. Very balanced, herbs and lemon, a hint of peach, and a great wheat character. Very pleasant.

A great full mouthfeel. High carbotion, perfect for the style. A little heavy on the wheat that kind of sits on the back on the palate.

This is a great beer. I could really get into it.

A - hazy yellow, looks orangish due to haze, thick white head persists, leaves lots of sticky lace.

S - nice mix of banana and citrus, balancing clove, light grainy sweetness, smells pretty damn good

T - crisp wheat, light citrus tartness, lingering bready finish, lots of fresh banana and light clove, gentle sweetness

M - crisp, but creamy, carbonation provides additional tingle that really adds to refreshing quality

D - fresh hefeweizen, not much can beat it at this time of year

Wow, just what the doctor ordered! Having just finished reading the new Brewing with Wheat, and with spring just moving in, I was definitely craving some tasty wheat beer. Half Pints to the rescue - thanks Dave!

Just about the perfect thirst quencher, and a damn fine hefe. Has a little bit of everything that I like in a hefe, and all well balanced. Superb. Too bad the rest of the 6-pack is for my wife.

Pours a nice cloudy yellow with a foamy white top that quickly recedes leaving light lacing. Smells of sweetness, bananas with a slight underlying spice. Enjoyable body that is sweet and fruity with a bit of thickness in the mouthfeel. A good balance with the mild bitterness to keep it from being cloying. An easy beer to drink on a warm summer day. Looking forward to enjoying this one come summer!
