Poured into a glass mug.
The appearance was rugged dark amber close to brown color with a finger's worth of eggshell white foamy head. The head seemed to want to hang around for a good minute and a half before ever so gently dissolving. Faint semi-stringy lace.
The aroma had a very nice blend of sweet and roasty coffee beans to chocolate malts to nuts and caramel/toffee malts.
The flavor yielded to the sweetness of the prior noted aromas. Mild aftertaste of coffee, nuts, caramel and milk chocolate.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Everything seems in place enough for nothing to be distractible. Carbonation and ABV felt good. Nice coffee and chocolate finish.
Overall, in a beer world, that's getting tough to brew that make or break beer. Smuttynose is still in the ring. They heard the 'bell' and decided to strap on the gloves, damn right I'd have this again.

16oz bottle poured into a snifter.
A: Deep chestnut hue with good clarity. To wring beige head shows no intention of budging even an inch. Sticky lacing.
S: Coffee forward with a nice nutty medium roast coming out. Mild fudgey undertones. Thin caramel. Subtle tick of hops.
T: Follows the nose. Nice medium roast coffee, caramel and cocoa malt flavors. Hop bitterness kicks up a bit middle to end. A nice, balanced finish sees coffee meld well with a bit of lingering malt sweetness.
M: Medium bodied. Full, creamy, silky smooth. Carbonation is aggressive and adds a crisp bite that actually does well to aid drinkability.
O: A great, classically built brown ale plays well with the coffee and makes for a flavorful yet easy quaff.

Pours clear maroon red with a creamy khaki colored foam head. Smells like roasted coffee, nutty cocoa, vanilla, toasted bready malts, caramel, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like toasted bready grain, roasted coffee, nutty cocoa, vanilla, caramel, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, smooth and creamy, thick with moderate low carbonation. Overall a real nice coffee brown ale.

Deep dark brown color with faint ruby and a bubbly off white head. Huge coffee nose with faint caramel chocolate and earthy hop. Rich caramel and light chocolate maltiness with plenty of coffee flavor. Decent coffee brown ale
