9/1/18...pours cloudy hazy gold, light white ring of white foam. Sweet fruity nose. Hints at papaya and guava. Slight melon in there too. Light fruity bitter. Rinds and pulp contribute. Swirls in a fruity bitter. Nice.

16oz can dated 1/29/19.
Pours clear gold with a slight chill haze. Minimal retention or lacing. Lightly hoppy in the nose with shades of melon, grape, and pixie dust. On the light side of medium bodied with a thin mouthfeel. Pithy grapefruit with bitter citrus on the palate. Finishes dry with zero malt and a lingering bitterness.

Can from the source. Slightly hazy light golden color with a good sized bubbly white head that persists. Dripping with juicy fruits on the nose. A bit of earthy grassy bitterness towards the finish and a bit of bready sugary malt to balance. Nice break from the onslaught of gritty hazy IPA's Ive been trying lately.

A New England Style IPA from Smuttynose featuring El Dorado and Amarillo hops.
6.8 % abv. Bottom of can reads: "Moon a Werewolf". Canned on 1/29/19 opened on 2/15/19.
Only a slight white haze inside of the otherwise, golden color. A substantial white crown stays active, good retention, constant coverage and a bit of sticky lace.
The hops give off this tropical fruit, meets deep earthy and herbal style aroma's. Together, very effective. Not nearly as "heady" as some NE ipa's, but different and certainly unique. Gone is the creamy, thick aroma from the malt and highly textured tones of the hops. Here now, is the straight and clean smell of sweet pineapple and earthy grains. Hop-forward in a major way.
It's got such a crunchy, crispy, pilsner-ish style malty bite at first, seriously refreshing feeling. CLEAN, man, big time. The hops hit you with a seriously, dry, earthy and grainy effect that showcases the two hop strains finer aspects very well....more on that....
The El Dorado and Amirrillo hops just pop out like a 3-D movie. Pleasantly surprised at how the light and crispy malt kick starts the fun, and then the hops just gring it to another level. Although, not nearly as thick in layers or complex as some of the highly regarded New England IPA's, Moon Water is on a diffetent trip. This one is a juicy, crispy, tropical ride through the stratosphere.
I'm a huge Smutty fan, mostly due to it's ground-breaking style releases with the "Big Beer" series back in the day. Now, SmuttLabs seem to ge starting to regain some of the former excellence. A true New England classic brewery.
