In the spirit of never settling and always pushing to higher ground, Smuttlabs is honored to partner with Battle Grounds Coffee and The Black Ale Project on a rugged new beer fit for even the most discerning of palates.
Battle Grounds Coffee Porter employs Dark Ops coffee beans – the company’s darkest roast
level – giving the beer a rich mouthfeel with subtle notes of fruit and chocolate. The result is a flavor that’s high impact and no apologies.
The Black Ale Project is a prolific craft beer initiative that raises money and awareness on behalf of U.S. war veterans. Smuttlabs brewed this porter in collaboration with MA-based Battle Grounds Coffee and will be donating a portion of sales to a charity that supports military veterans.
Malts: 2 Row, Munich 1, Cargil C-60, Crisp Chocolate, Caramunich 2
Hops: Willamette
Yeast: Chico
Mojo: Battle Grounds Dark Ops Dark Roast Coffee Beans
IBU: 30

Dark brown with a decent sized mocha head that persists.
Coffee and roast on the nose and in the flavor. Light pepper and dark dried fruits. Mostly coffee.

Poured into a 13 oz stemless tulip canned on 10/25/19. Pours a dark brown a 2 finger head that leaves some thick streaks of lace as it slowly settles into a thin film of bubbles. 4.25
Smell is faint dry coffee, vanilla, cocoa nibs, and some toffee. 3.75
Taste follows, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and toffee. 3.75
Mouthfeel is about medium, a tad dry, soft carbonation, and at 5.9% drinks like it. 3.75
Overall not bad, but no wow factor for me, but pretty darn solid and at 5.9% you can have a few of them. 3.75
