This ale is loaded with Magnum, Amarillo and Simcoe hops, including a two pounds per barrel dry hop blend. On the malt side of the equation, you can expect significant spiciness from the German rye malt, but a fairly light body and deep golden color.

A: Golden amber and hazy in color. Frothy, white head that dissipates quickly. Mild lacing.

S: It's like sticking your face into a bag of fresh hops. The rye is very prevalent on the nose. Citrus, rye and malt and awesome.

T: This beer is very hop forward. The lemon/grapefruit citrus hops intertwined with the rye and malt is well balanced. This is pretty full bodied, but also very drinkable.

M: Round, full and fresh. It's a decently heavy beer on the palate.

O: Fantastic rye IPA! The dry hopping adds depth and punch to this beer. Highly recommended.

consumed on 6/29, while I was "on Hiatus." stopped by Blind Tiger while in NYC today.

a - brew arrived in a little glass mug ($8) with a thin bubbly head. really murky orange. nice head for a brew on cask...kind of creamy/bubbly. super murky, but dry hopped so expected.

s - stank of sweaty stinky sticky hops. really inviting.

t - taste was more of the same sweaty stinky sticky hops, but the rye came through a lot more. nice balance.

m - this one left a bitter aftertaste and the mouth was void of carbonation...even for a cask. i came to learn that this was put up for an event on the 27th which was 2 days ago and in my experience cask is only really good when it is first tapped. this one definitely lost some of it's luster.

o - when asking the bartender about this beer, I was informed that smuttynose made this special for blind tiger for their smuttynose event the other day, so the cask isn't ideal as it has been a few days since tapped. overall, i love a rye ipa and can't wait to try this one not dry hopped from the bottle (whenever that may happen). this was a rather nice surprise and treat. the dry hopping on the rye was great, but the creaminess of the cask (let alone few day old cask) left something to be desired.
