From BeerAdvocate Magazine #76 (May 2013):

Bottle #708 of 960, this “Session IPA” was brewed for the 10th anniversary of the Mohegan Sun’s Sun Winefest. Standout ingredients are Bravo hops, an experimental hop variety (01210) and some local Valley Malt C-60. By British standards, this one is a bit too high alcohol-wise to be a “session” beer, but we could easily drink many sessions of it.

STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 5.3%
AVAILABILITY: Limited

LOOK: Golden, slight haze, creamy, clingy; long-lasting white head

SMELL: Grain, lemons, floral

TASTE: Light, watery, grainy, crackery malts, gritty, bitter, lemony, citrus rinds, grassy, astringent, dry

22oz bottle (bottle 210 of 960) poured into an Allagash stemmed glass. Says it was bottle conditioned in January 2013, so this has about 5 months on it.

A - A bit of a gusher out of the bottling requiring some quick reaction time to save every drop. Pours a hazy, fruit juicy looking pale golden color with hints of amber. A thick finger of dense white foam settles in for a couple of minutes. Traces of lacing left on the glass.

S - Very fruity on the nose, plenty of requisite citrusy grapefruit, strong mango and tropical fruit components, some tart apple-like fruitiness, maybe a touch of funk too. Smells really nice.

T - Mid level bitterness up front that fades smoothly into the fruity flavors of citrus and tropical fruits. Fruitiness fades back towards the swallow and gives way to the hop bitterness again. Dry, biscuity malt also comes thru. Piney hop flavors also sneak their way in at times - I don't notice these on every sip but they manage to creep in here and there.

M - Medium body with a lightish mid-level carbonation that is soft on the tongue. Lots of fruity hops, medium bitterness. Plenty of flavor, very smooth and very drinkable. Alcohol presence is practically undetectable - gives the impression of an easy all day drinker.

O - Picked this up without any knowledge of this beer...not even the style - just wanted to try something new. Definitely a winner. Very enjoyable lighter IPA - perfect for a warm evening. Tons of hop flavor with a lower intensity bitterness. Lots of fruitiness, especially tropical varieties...really nice, wish this was more available than a one time release. This is one beer that on the start was good and only got better throughout the bottle. By the end of the bottle, I was wishing for more.

A-Paradox presents itself in a clear, golden fashion. Head is a sudsy compilation of large bubbles. Thick, random lacing patches.

S-The aroma is phenomenal. Tropical and bubblegummy. Sweet citrus. Very exotically hopped. Love the hop expression. Malt is light and sweet but it complements the hops excellently.

T-The flavor is different than the nose. It almost has a hint of rosemary. Still a lot like bubblegum. Some earthy elements. A solid wallop of tangy citrus. Lemons and even limes. Really unusual but really cool. Sweet, buttered dough malt helps to tame the circus of hops.

M-Too much carbonation. Aside from that, its incredibly drinkable. Perfect bitterness.

O/D- The Short Batch series has blown me away. Durty, a previous Short Batch was one of my favorite beers I have had in the past year and this beer kicks ass too. Sessionable and uniquely hopped. Would love to know what hop varietals are used here. My guess is Sorachi Ace is some quantity. Get this fresh, its legit!

From the 22 fl. oz. bottle. Bottle no. 296 of 960. Sampled on February 21, 2013.

The pour tends to be pale yellow to golden with a full fizzy, white head that simmers down leaving lacing in its wake. Loads of carbonation bubbles.

The aroma is a wide array of scents including sweet pale malts, earthy hops, and a slight lemon note. But the hops tend to take over in the end.

The body is around medium with a slight astringency going on.

The taste starts out with mildly sweet malts and then the powerful hop finish moves in lingering slightly. The lemon is not as obvious in the flavor as on the nose. It is a decent IPA. Enjoy it while you can because this is a short batch.
