The Furlong is brewed with roasted barley to impart notes of coffee and dark chocolate. RedRock's brewers used rich dark malts for bold flavor and then age it all in freshly used Kentucky Bourbon Barrels for a year.

Pours a deep, dark coffee brown with a medium head. Smell is wonderful, a typical stout with hints of oak and, of course, bourbon. The taste is surprisingly smooth for a beer with 10.2% ABV. High on malts, low on hops. Very drinkable. Red Rock continues to be one of the most underrated brewers in the Mountain West, IMHO.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a glass. Thin, tan head - lots of carbonation. Dark in color - but slightly translucent when held up to the light - looks more like cola than a stout. Smell is woody with very subtle notes of chocolate and maple. Flavor of roasted malt - but not much else going on. Very thin mouthfeel - overly carbonated.
Overall - this was a dud. Lack of flavor and mouthfeel - combined with over-carbonation made this one a bust for me.

500 mL bottle. Big khaki head atop a deep brown, almost black body. Smells of bourbon, roasted malt, and a little cola. Tastes of bourbon throughout. Some roast and sweet caramel malt. Some nutty malts and an oaky finish. But mostly bourbon. Medium body. Well carbonated. Not bad. Good barrel flavor, but hard to taste the stout behind it.

Definitely Utah's best beer. Very similar to BCBS except pours thinner and the booze is more pronounced. You can definitely taste and smell the bourbon in this beer but in a really good way.
Stumbled across this beer by accident over the holidays and it was fantastic. It was sold in bottles to go from the downtown location and sold out quickly. I was able to get it at the fashion place location but had to drink it in the restaurant. The third time I went back to get it they had sold out. Looking forward to seeing it again next holiday season.

Released yesterday from the Red Rock beer store.
Appearance: takes more after a regular stout than imperial stout. Black with a light brown foamy head. Just didn't seem as viscous as I had expected.
Smell: lots of bourbon! Also roasted malt, milk chocolate, and a little bit of acidity that seems to hang around.
Taste: bourbon, some acidity, cold black coffee, roasted malts that's sweet and almost burnt. The flavors are awesome, it's just seem to be missing the depth or complexity.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied, just a little more thin than their year-round Drioma.
Overall: this is very good. I like the fact I don't have to fork over 15 bucks to drink this. Totally different beer than Drioma, much better in fact! The bourbon really stands out - both the smell and flavor.

Picked up my limit of six when the doors opened. There was a sizable line which was cool to see, beer is alive and well in Salt Lake City! Got home and tried one. Very smooth with a little bit of rough but on edges at aftertaste. This is not in your face bourbon bomb, nicely done no real chocolate or coffee notes to me like the label says. Maybe a bit more roasty caramel flavors which work well. Very drinkable at 10.2. It's my 2nd favorite Utah stout next to Big Bad Baptist and that's saying a lot. Good job Red Rocks
