A stout and a lager, blended for a Black and Tan with smooth start and finish. Chipotle adds a smokey tenderness and a tangy bite.

A pint at NOLA, a newish Louisiana-themed restaurant in north Edmonton. This is the house beer brewed for them by Amber's.
This beer appears a clear dark reddish brown colour, with a skinny finger of frothy off-white head, which leaves a broad swath of lace around the glass as it settles. It smells of chocolate malt, mildly spicy pepper, a bit of subtle smoke, and earthy hops. The taste is bittersweet chocolate grainy malt, more zingy vegetal pepper than smoke, whose salty character yet overpowers any latent hop character. The carbonation is on the soft side, the body medium-light in weight, and generally smooth. It finishes on a drying trend, the chocolate holding fast, spice fading, weedy hops ascending.
A decent black and tan, subtly spiced, and well tailored for the impressive, and not only by its rarity in these parts, Cajun grub.
