This is a sweet full-bodied stout with a coffee aroma and flavor. It is brewed as a normal sweet stout, then over 20 gallons of a special blend of coffee from Millcreek coffee roasters is added. It is a great dessert beer.

A pint on Nitro at the pub.

Appearance: Perfectly dark with a wonderful head from the nitro that left great lacing all down the glass.

Smell: Faint hints of sweet coffee and roasty malts.

Taste: On the front, there is mostly roasted malts with some nuttiness. An addition of sweet coffee adds to the taste towards the finish.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is middling. I feel that the nitro adds so much creaminess to the mouthfeel.

Overall: Yes, I really wish this one could have been about 5.5 or 6.0 ABV, but it is not bad at 4.0. The brewpub can only brew to that level. The rating here is for all of the restrictions that the state puts on us beer drinkers.

I have discovered one issue with Utah....beers on tap cannot be more than 3.2 by weight....which coverts to like 4% ABV....and it is unfortunate....because the shot in the dark needs some body...heft or something. The appearance is good...deep and rich with ecru head. The scent is very good...roast and espresso....unfortunately the taste was like coffee ground in water....wasn't creamy or had body...which is what I like in my stouts. This off course affected the mouthfeel and overall rating.
